Position Summary
The Advanced Respiratory Care Specialist is integral to our mission of advancing health together. This role involves providing critical care and emergency transport services through Duke Life Flight, a CAMTS accredited agency serving North Carolina and surrounding regions.

Our team operates advanced rotor-wing aircraft and a fleet of critical care ambulances, ensuring rapid access to healthcare for patients requiring specialized interventions.

Key Responsibilities
- Conduct and assess diagnostic and therapeutic procedures as per the Respiratory Care Services guidelines.
- Evaluate the suitability of medical orders and demonstrate proficiency in mechanical ventilation techniques.
- Administer Non-Invasive Positive Pressure Ventilation (NPPV), Continuous Positive Airway Pressure (CPAP), and Bi-Level Positive Airway Pressure (BiPAP).
- Perform endotracheal intubation under supervision and assist with extubations.
- Participate as a member of the emergency response team and administer medical gases.
- Insert nasogastric and orogastric tubes, perform tracheotomy tube changes, and conduct capnography monitoring.
- Transport patients requiring mechanical ventilation or airway management.
- Analyze clinical data to enhance patient outcomes and collaborate with healthcare professionals during clinical rounds.
- Assist with bronchoscopy procedures and provide training for Level II Respiratory Therapists.

Qualifications
- Completion of an accredited two-year Respiratory Care Program (Associate's Degree or equivalent).
- A minimum of three years of clinical respiratory therapy experience, including one year in an intensive care setting.
- Required certifications include North Carolina State Licensure, Registry (RRT) by the National Board for Respiratory Care (NBRC), and certifications in Basic Life Support (BLS), Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS), Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS), and Neonatal Resuscitation (NRP).

Skills and Abilities
- Strong clinical decision-making skills and the ability to interact effectively with patients of all ages.
- Physical capability to perform essential job functions, including lifting and transporting equipment.
