As the largest facility within Duke Health, it boasts 1,048 patient beds and 65 operating rooms, along with a wide array of diagnostic and therapeutic services, including a regional emergency and trauma center.

Compensation and Benefits

Eligible candidates may receive a $15,000 commitment bonus and up to $8,000 in relocation assistance. Candidates currently enrolled in an accredited Respiratory Care Program may also apply, provided they meet educational and licensure prerequisites before their start date.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct diagnostic and therapeutic procedures as outlined in the Respiratory Care Services clinical practice guidelines.
  • Administer treatments such as oxygen therapy, aerosolized medications, and incentive breathing techniques.
  • Perform airway management techniques, including suctioning and CPR, while monitoring vital signs and conducting arterial blood gas analyses.
  • Execute cardiopulmonary diagnostics, pulmonary function tests, and EKGs.
  • Ensure the proper setup and safety of all medical equipment and supplies required for patient care.
  • Maintain compliance with infectious disease protocols during all patient interactions.
  • Educate patients, families, and healthcare team members about respiratory care practices.
  • Carry out additional duties as necessary to support the department's operations.

Qualifications

Education:

  • Completion of an accredited two-year Associate's Degree or equivalent program in respiratory care.

Experience:

  • No prior experience required for entry-level positions.
  • For advanced roles, six months to one year of clinical experience post-graduation is preferred.

Licensure and Certification:

  • Must possess North Carolina State Licensure or Provisional License and certification from the National Board for Respiratory Care (NBRC).
  • If certified as a CRT, must obtain RRT certification within six months of employment.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification is required, along with any additional relevant certifications.

Skills and Abilities:

  • Ability to make informed clinical decisions based on patient age and condition.
  • Proficiency in the technical skills required for respiratory care.
  • Strong communication and customer service skills are essential.
  • Physical demands include the ability to lift and carry equipment, as well as perform tasks that require mobility and dexterity.
