Position: Advanced Respiratory Care Practitioner - Duke Life Flight

We are pleased to offer a substantial Commitment Bonus, distributed over two years, along with relocation assistance and competitive shift differentials.

As an Advanced Respiratory Care Practitioner with Duke Life Flight, you will play a vital role in our mission to advance health collaboratively. Duke Life Flight is a CAMTS accredited critical care and emergency air and ground transport service based in Durham, NC, serving North Carolina and neighboring states. Our operations include advanced rotor wing aircraft and a fleet of critical care ambulances. Our dedicated respiratory care practitioners are integral to the Life Flight team, providing 24/7 transportation services for pediatric and neonatal patients, ensuring rapid access to essential healthcare resources.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct and evaluate diagnostic and therapeutic procedures in accordance with the Respiratory Care Services scope of practice for neonatal, pediatric, and adult patient populations.
  • Perform all responsibilities of a Respiratory Care Practitioner I.
  • Assess medical orders for suitability.
  • Exhibit expertise in mechanical ventilator modalities, NPPV, CPAP, BiPAP, and more.
  • Administer medical gases and perform capnography monitoring.
  • Assist in the transportation of patients requiring mechanical ventilation or airway management.
  • Analyze clinical data to improve patient outcomes.
  • Engage in clinical rounds and support the training of Level II RTs.
  • Ensure safe operation of devices in the MRI environment.

Requirements:

  • Completion of a two-year AMA accredited Respiratory Care Program (Associate's Degree or equivalent).
  • A minimum of three years of clinical respiratory therapy experience, with preference for candidates with four years, including ICU experience in neonatal or pediatric settings.
  • NBRC Registry (RRT) certification from the National Association for Respiratory Care.
  • Ability to interact effectively with patients of all ages and collaborate with healthcare team members.
  • Flexibility to work across various hospital departments.
