Position: Advanced Respiratory Care Practitioner - Duke Life Flight

Incentives: We provide a $15,000 Commitment Bonus distributed over two years, along with up to $8,000 in relocation assistance and competitive shift differentials.

Duke Life Flight is seeking an Advanced Respiratory Care Practitioner who is dedicated to our mission of Advancing Health Together. As a CAMTS accredited critical care transport agency, we deliver essential air and ground transport services across North Carolina and neighboring states. Our team operates advanced rotor-wing aircraft and a fleet of critical care ambulances, ensuring timely access to specialized healthcare.

Job Responsibilities
  • Conduct and assess diagnostic and therapeutic procedures as outlined in the Respiratory Care Services clinical practice guidelines.
  • Evaluate the validity of medical orders.
  • Demonstrate proficiency in mechanical ventilation techniques.
  • Administer Non-Invasive Positive Pressure Ventilation (NPPV), including CPAP and BiPAP.
  • Perform endotracheal intubation under supervision and manage extubation processes.
  • Participate as a member of the emergency response team and administer medical gases.
  • Insert nasogastric and orogastric tubes as needed.
  • Conduct tracheotomy tube changes and monitor capnography.
  • Transport patients requiring mechanical ventilation or airway management.
  • Analyze clinical data to enhance patient care outcomes.
  • Engage in clinical rounds with interdisciplinary healthcare teams.
  • Assist with bronchoscopy procedures and mentor Level II Respiratory Therapists.
  • Ensure safe operation of medical devices in MRI settings.
  • Meet qualifications for hyperbaric chamber certification if applicable.
Qualifications

Education:
  • Completion of an accredited two-year Respiratory Care Program (Associate's Degree or equivalent).
  • Maintain annual skill assessments and compliance with safety requirements.
  • Fulfill North Carolina's continuing education requirements for licensure.
Experience:
  • A minimum of three years of clinical respiratory therapy experience, with at least one year in an intensive care setting focusing on neonatal or pediatric patients.
  • Advanced certification (C-NPT) is required within two years of employment; preference for candidates with critical care transport experience and NPS certification.
Licensure and Certifications:
  • North Carolina State Licensure.
  • Registry (RRT) by the National Board for Respiratory Care (NBRC).
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification.
  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification.
  • Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certification.
Skills and Abilities:
  • Ability to make informed clinical decisions based on patient age and condition.
  • Validation of competencies for the responsibilities of a Level I Respiratory Therapist.
  • Effective communication and customer service skills are essential.
  • Physical capability to perform tasks that may involve lifting, pushing, and transporting patients.
