Position: Advanced Respiratory Care Practitioner - Duke Life Flight

We are pleased to offer a substantial Commitment Bonus of $15,000, distributed over a two-year period, alongside up to $8,000 in relocation assistance and appealing shift differentials.

As an Advanced Respiratory Care Practitioner with Duke Life Flight, you will contribute to our mission of Advancing Health Together. Duke Life Flight, a CAMTS accredited critical care and emergency air and ground transport service based in Durham, NC, serves North Carolina and neighboring states. Our operations include two advanced rotor wing aircraft and a fleet of critical care and advanced life support ambulances. Our dedicated respiratory care practitioners collaborate with the Life Flight team, providing 24/7 transportation services for pediatric and neonatal patients, ensuring timely access to healthcare when specialized resources are vital for patient survival.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct and evaluate diagnostic and therapeutic procedures in accordance with the Respiratory Care Services scope of practice across neonatal, pediatric, and adult patient demographics.
  • Perform all responsibilities of a Respiratory Care Practitioner I.
  • Assess medical orders for appropriateness.
  • Exhibit proficiency in mechanical ventilator modalities, NPPV, CPAP, BiPAP, etc.
  • Administer medical gases and carry out capnography monitoring.
  • Assist in patient transport requiring mechanical ventilation or airway protection.
  • Interpret clinical data to improve patient outcomes.
  • Engage in clinical rounds and assist in the training of Level II RTs.
  • Ensure safe operation of devices in the MRI environment.

Requirements:

  • Completion of a two-year AMA accredited Respiratory Care Program (Associates Degree or equivalent).
  • A minimum of three years of clinical respiratory therapy experience, with preference for candidates with four years including ICU experience in neonatal or pediatric settings.
  • NBRC Registry (RRT) certification from the National Association for Respiratory Care.
  • Ability to interact with patients of all ages and collaborate effectively with healthcare team members.
  • Flexibility to work across various hospital departments.
