Position Overview

Conduct diagnostic and therapeutic clinical procedures as outlined in the Respiratory Care Services scope of practice, executing tasks in accordance with physician directives. Responsibilities include care for neonatal and pediatric patient populations.
Key Responsibilities

  • Administer oxygen and aerosolized medications through various methods including Intermittent Positive Pressure Breathing (IPPB), Intermittent Aerosol Therapy (IAT), Metered Dose Inhalers (MDI), and incentive breathing devices.
  • Perform nasotracheal and artificial airway suctioning, CPR, bag-mask ventilation, pulse oximetry monitoring, arterial blood gas punctures, and bedside pulmonary mechanics.
  • Conduct diagnostic cardiopulmonary procedures, pulmonary function tests, EKGs, and cardiac monitoring.
  • Ensure proper setup, safety, and functionality of all equipment and supplies essential for patient care.
  • Maintain compliance with all infectious disease protocols during patient care delivery.
  • Possess knowledge of pharmacological indications, dosages, and potential adverse drug reactions.
  • Provide education to patients, families, physicians, nursing staff, and other healthcare team members.
  • Perform additional related duties as required.
Required Qualifications
Education
RCP
  • Completion of an AMA approved two-year Associate's Degree or equivalent program.
RCP Advanced
  • Completion of a two-year AMA approved respiratory care program (Associate's Degree or equivalent).
  • Must fulfill annual skill maintenance and safety/compliance requirements.
  • Must meet North Carolina annual license requirements for continuing education units (CEUs).
Experience
RCP
  • No prior experience required.
RCP Advanced
  • Six months to one year of clinical experience post-graduation from a respiratory care program.
Licensure and Certification
RCP
  • North Carolina State Licensure or Provisional License, and certification by the National Board for Respiratory Care (NBRC).
  • If holding CRT, must obtain RRT within six months of employment.
  • Certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) and any other relevant certifications.
RCP Advanced
  • North Carolina State Licensure.
  • Registry (RRT) by the National Association for Respiratory Care (NBRC).
  • Certification in Basic Life Support (BLS), Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS), Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS), and Neonatal Resuscitation (NRPS) if applicable.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Ability to make informed clinical decisions and interact appropriately with patients of varying ages.
  • Validation of skills and competencies necessary for the responsibilities of this role.
  • Must adhere to annual skill and safety/compliance requirements.
  • Must maintain North Carolina annual license requirements for CEUs.
  • Strong customer service and communication skills.
  • Engagement with patients of all ages, family members, physicians, nursing staff, and other healthcare professionals.
  • Work is conducted in various areas of the hospital.
  • Must be able to carry an emergency airway bag weighing approximately 20 pounds.
  • Physical activities include walking, running, climbing, and bending.
