POSITION: Background Field Investigator – Entry Level

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Perform federal background assessments and compile investigation reports in adherence to Federal Investigative Standards, applicable laws, and federal agency regulations. Manage cases across the designated geographic area and travel to various employment, residential, and educational sites.

Driving is a critical aspect of this role, and Motor Vehicle Records may be reviewed during the hiring process or at any point during employment. Candidates with unfavorable driving records will not be considered.

Clearance Requirements:

  • Current (within the last 2 years) Single Scope Background Investigation (SSBI) or active Secret level security clearance based on an SSBI.
  • Willingness to complete security documentation and engage in a Background Investigation covering a minimum of 10 years of history, including residence, education, employment, financial, medical, and personal records.
  • Capability to obtain and sustain any additional specific clearances/access requirements.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Must be a U.S. citizen.
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution.
  • Reliable personal vehicle, valid driver's license, and satisfactory driving record.
  • Successfully complete all mandatory training, which includes a 4-week virtual classroom component and a 2-week in-person mentorship with a Senior Investigator.

Preferred Experience and Education:

  • Training from the Office of Personnel Management for investigators.
  • Previous experience in background investigations supporting government contracts.
  • Bachelor's degree in criminal justice or a related discipline.
  • Current Top-Secret clearance.

JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Conduct in-person interviews with subjects to gather information regarding their background and character, following agency guidelines.
  • Collect factual data from various personal and record sources to generate a comprehensive report of investigation that encapsulates all relevant details of an individual's background and character in line with agency standards.
  • Perform record checks at law enforcement agencies, courthouses, and educational and employment institutions, as well as financial and medical records.
  • Execute fieldwork efficiently in a fast-paced environment while meeting quality and timeliness benchmarks.
  • Travel within the designated geographic area to conduct investigations at various employment, residential, and educational locations as assigned.
  • Willingness to travel within a 30-50 mile radius (or more) of the assigned region as necessary.
  • Engage regularly with case managers and representatives from contractor facilities, various U.S. Government organizations, and law enforcement agencies to foster effective working relationships.
  • Communicate effectively with Regional Field Managers, Lead Investigators, and Case Managers to ensure investigations are timely and thorough.
  • Adapt to evolving situations and environments, interacting with individuals from diverse backgrounds and socioeconomic levels.
  • Exhibit strong verbal and written communication skills and maintain a professional demeanor in all circumstances.
  • Workload will depend on the availability of cases in the geographic area.
  • Occasional voluntary temporary assignments in other regions of the country (typically lasting 2-4 weeks) may be available.
  • Must reside within a reasonable distance from the training location, as changes in location could affect continued employment.
  • Other duties as assigned.
