Position Overview

As a Welding Engineer at Bechtel Plant Machinery, Inc. (BPMI), you will engage in welding engineering assessments, evaluations, and make informed engineering decisions across various tasks. These tasks may encompass a blend of functions related to the design, manufacturing, installation, and refurbishment of equipment.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Develop and review welding and process documentation, standards, and specifications.
  • Formulate, execute, and report on welding development initiatives.
  • Oversee welding engineering processes and fabrication methods from suppliers.
  • Conduct analyses of welding conditions.
  • Perform troubleshooting and failure investigations.
  • Assist with in-service inspections and evaluations.

Minimum Qualifications:
  • A Bachelor’s degree in Welding Engineering, Materials Science, or Metallurgical Engineering from an accredited institution is required.
  • A minimum of six (6) years of relevant experience is necessary.
  • A security clearance is required; however, all qualified candidates will be considered regardless of their current clearance status. The ability to obtain and maintain a Department of Energy security clearance is essential.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • A Master’s or Doctorate in Welding Engineering, Materials Science, or Metallurgical Engineering (with a focus on physical metallurgy) is preferred.
  • Experience in applying welding principles in the design and fabrication of equipment, along with the preparation and interpretation of welding specifications and standards, is desirable.

Bechtel Plant Machinery, Inc. (BPMI) is a project engineering organization dedicated to supporting the Naval Nuclear Propulsion Program. BPMI specializes in the design, manufacturing, and supply chain management of fabrication, testing, delivery, installation, and field support of nuclear power plant components utilized in submarines and aircraft carriers. Additionally, BPMI provides upgraded replacement components to facilitate refueling and overhaul activities and assists in the storage and disposition of spent naval fuel. BPMI also delivers IT and operational solutions to the Nuclear Navy, enabling them to fulfill their critical missions.
