Gannett Fleming is seeking a highly skilled Principal Geotechnical Engineer to oversee both the technical and commercial facets of our operations. This role demands expert knowledge in areas such as dam and levee safety, foundation engineering, seismic assessments—including the determination of design ground motions and the evaluation of liquefaction risks—and slope stability analysis. The successful candidate will also be involved in geotechnical assessments for various linear infrastructure initiatives.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Define project scope, allocate resources, and establish schedules and budgets for complex assignments.
  • Lead the design and execution of significant projects independently.
  • Manage multiple large-scale projects, coordinating with multidisciplinary teams and subcontractors.
  • Utilize extensive knowledge to assess, select, and implement appropriate techniques and methodologies.
  • Provide construction support services, including bid assistance, construction oversight, and project closeout.
  • Ensure project documentation meets quality standards through thorough reviews.
  • Engage in business development activities to expand client relationships and market presence.
  • Collaborate with diverse teams to pursue and secure project opportunities.
  • Foster and maintain strong client relationships, understanding their needs and managing expectations.
  • Lead and mentor technical staff to cultivate a high-performing team.
  • Innovate and refine engineering processes and techniques.
  • Facilitate project meetings and present engineering insights.
  • Represent the organization in professional communications and conferences.
  • Delegate tasks and oversee junior consultants and technicians.
  • Train staff on specialized software and applications.
  • Assist senior management in executing business initiatives and managing organizational programs.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering from an accredited institution; a Master's degree is preferred.
  • A minimum of 15 years of progressive experience in geotechnical engineering.
  • Demonstrated project management experience within multidisciplinary teams and client development.
  • Professional Engineering license in California or a state with comity.
  • Geotechnical Engineering license in California.
  • In-depth knowledge of geotechnical engineering principles related to foundation design and seismic hazard evaluation.
  • Familiarity with landslide stabilization techniques is advantageous.
  • Proficient in creating and reviewing reports, plans, specifications, and estimates.
  • Competence in software tools such as AutoCAD, Civil 3D, and MS Office.
  • Experience with specialized analysis software (e.g., Flac, GeoStudio, Mathcad).
