Overview:
Job Summary


In collaboration with the Grocery Department Manager, you will assist the Store Manager in strategizing, coordinating, and overseeing store operations to effectively manage costs, achieve labor targets, maintain profit margins, meet or exceed sales objectives, and ensure a pleasant and secure shopping environment for customers as well as a safe and professional workplace for employees.

You will monitor the maintenance and replenishment of stock to consistently meet customer purchasing demands.

Typical Duties and Responsibilities


Oversee the Grocery department, ensuring adherence to WinCo Foods Company Policies, State and Federal Regulations, and the store's Collective Bargaining Agreement.

Regularly assess the store's appearance and conditions to uphold high standards of cleanliness, efficiency, and productivity. Demonstrate a keen understanding of store priorities and the ability to anticipate changes.

Ensure a safe environment for both customers and employees, thereby managing general liability and workers' compensation costs.

Exhibit enthusiasm and a positive demeanor towards colleagues and customers alike.

Set a standard of personal integrity, appearance, and ethical business practices that serves as a model for all store personnel.

Lead by example.

Evaluate employee performance and productivity, ensuring effective labor utilization within the grocery department.

Assess and implement store merchandising strategies.

Carry out personnel functions as needed, including hiring, training, and disciplinary actions.

Assume Store Manager responsibilities in their absence or as assigned.

Assist the Store Manager in achieving or surpassing projected labor and productivity goals.

Monitor and maintain the quality of all products. Ensure that all items are stocked, rotated, and displayed properly, managing outdated and spoiled products appropriately.


Take responsibility for the Grocery department, ensuring compliance with WinCo Foods Company Policies, State and Federal Regulations, and the store's Collective Bargaining Agreement.

Perform additional duties as required.

Requirements

Education:
High School Diploma or Equivalent

Experience:
Effective communication with colleagues and customers, as well as following written instructions.

Demonstrated understanding of overall policies and practices through prior retail experience.


Exhibit leadership through skills in communication, interpersonal relations, management of personnel, customer service, employee relations, analysis, planning orders, judgment, and responsiveness to business activity.

Perform basic mathematical operations (addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division) and compute weights and measures.

Proficient in operating computers and Windows software in a professional setting.

Ability to:
Efficiently and accurately operate check stand equipment such as scales, scanners, and cash registers.

Utilize relevant computer programs for tasks such as employee scheduling and product ordering.

Perform basic math operations, compute weights and measures, and calculate profit margins.

Work evening, night, and weekend shifts as required.

Carry out all duties and responsibilities at a fully competent and independent level.

Exhibit supervisory skills (e.g., interviewing, scheduling, hiring, counseling, training, disciplining, etc.)

Effectively employ excellent verbal, written, electronic, and interpersonal communication skills.

Perform safe and efficient movements and operate related equipment with manual dexterity and good hand-eye coordination.

Carry out duties with mental alertness, recognizing potential hazards related to procedures, equipment, and work aids.

Conduct visual inspections and read reports, manuals, etc.

Calculate inventory.

Stand for extended periods, walk and move quickly, bend, stoop, twist, and turn frequently.

Perform repetitive arm and hand movements regularly.

Work around machinery that emits heat and/or cold conditions.

Reach, lift, stack, and maneuver objects of varying dimensions and weights up to 50 lbs. from floor level to overhead frequently.

Push and pull fully loaded hand trucks and pallet jacks containing substantial weight.

Utilize cleaning chemicals and handle related food products.

Execute primary duties with efficiency and accuracy.

Additional Requirements:
Food Handlers Certification - Per State Laws

Must be 21 years or older

Machines and Equipment Operated:
Office machines (computer terminal, copier/scanner, 10-key, fax machine, telephone, etc)

Forklift, Electric and manual Pallet Jack, Push Carts, and hand trucks.

Garbage & cardboard compactors.

Preferred Education, Experience and/or Credentials:
Completion of or participation in the Manager-In-Training (MIT) Program or similar supervisory/managerial education or training.


Experience demonstrating a thorough understanding of overall WinCo policies and practices in roles such as Lead Clerk, Department Manager, etc.
