About Our Team

At STM Journals, we partner with researchers to enhance the dissemination of their significant scientific findings, emphasizing stringent peer review, ethical standards, and reproducibility. Supporting our extensive portfolio of over 2700 hybrid and open access scientific journals, you will play a crucial role in advancing scientific knowledge, improving health outcomes, and promoting equitable participation in the publishing landscape.

About the Role

As a Lead Production Editor, you will oversee the operational functions of managing proprietary and/or society journals while supervising a diverse portfolio of publications. Your responsibilities will include scheduling articles, managing online publication processes, copyediting, and ensuring the quality and volume of copyedited materials. You will also be involved in creating cover designs and advertising layouts, while ensuring compliance with established style guidelines, standards, and timelines. Lead Production Editors supervise a team responsible for achieving production-wide strategies and objectives.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conducting copyediting and quality control on freelance-copyedited submissions.
  • Monitoring the progress of all manuscripts from acceptance to publication; balancing online early and print deadlines.
  • Assisting journals with essential technical journal-management procedures; independently managing all journal milestones and deadlines.
  • Critically evaluating department-wide workflows and processes; proposing innovative ideas to enhance operations within teams, Production, and Publishing Operations.
  • Acting as a leader within the Production team: regularly meeting with other Lead Production Editors and Editorial Operations Supervisors to address issues pertinent to your team within the broader organizational framework, actively sharing best practices with fellow team leaders, and leveraging historical knowledge and expertise in discussions.

Qualifications

  • Detail-oriented with a strong focus on quality, thoroughness, and accuracy.
  • Expertise in and familiarity with Cell Press systems, workflows, and infrastructure.
  • Demonstrated leadership capabilities within the Publishing Operations department and broader Cell Press.
  • Highly organized with a commitment to order and follow-up.
  • Proficient in Office applications and advanced knowledge of standard production systems.
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong interpersonal abilities.
  • Adept at managing multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Capable of setting priorities effectively.
  • Skilled in problem identification and analytical thinking.

Work-Life Balance

We prioritize a healthy work/life balance throughout our organization. We offer an attractive working environment for our employees, with numerous wellbeing initiatives, shared parental leave, study assistance, and sabbaticals to support both immediate responsibilities and long-term aspirations.
