Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Lifeguard to join our team at the City of Hobbs, NM. As a Lifeguard, you will be responsible for ensuring the safety of our facility patrons by preventing and responding to emergencies.

Key Responsibilities
  • Regular attendance is required to perform the duties of this position.
  • Recognize and respond effectively to all emergencies.
  • Enforce all aquatic facility policies, rules, and regulations.
  • Attend and participate in in-service training.
  • Monitor the use of the aquatic facilities.
  • Perform various miscellaneous duties such as answering phone calls, assisting with special events, and maintaining sanitary and safety standards in and around aquatic facilities.
  • Respond to public inquiries about aquatic programs made in person and by telephone.
  • Maintain related records for various aquatic programs.
  • Assist in the maintenance of the swimming pool.
  • Test water samples.
  • Attend staff meetings and trainings as scheduled.
  • Adhere to assigned work schedule and implement the City of Hobbs, NM mission and philosophy.
  • Immediately report suspicious or inappropriate behaviors or abuse.
  • May serve on various employee committees, as required and assigned.
Requirements
  • Graduation from high school or high school equivalency (HSE) preferred.
  • Dependable and available to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends.
  • Ability to work in a team atmosphere as well as independently and perform assigned duties with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to operate various hand tools used for pool operation and maintenance and pool water testing equipment, first aid, and life safety equipment.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, supervisors, other agencies, participants, instructors, and the general public.
  • Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing; ability to give and understand oral instructions.
  • Ability to effectively enforce safety and health regulations relating to an aquatics program.
  • Must be able to function effectively in a fast-paced environment.
  • Must be able to deal with people under stressful and demanding situations.
  • Ability and willingness to learn additional job duties.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Valid state-issued driver's license preferred.
  • Ability to obtain certification in American Red Cross Lifeguard training and First Aid/CPR by the first day of employment.
