Job Overview

POSITION SUMMARY

The Family Support Specialist will be an integral member of the Guidance Center of Lea County's Home Visiting Program, dedicated to delivering family-centered support and resources to families engaged in home-based services. This role emphasizes a strengths-based approach, providing advocacy and crisis intervention in alignment with federal, state, and program standards. The specialist will focus on child development, educational curriculum, and family assistance during home visits to families with infants, toddlers, and expectant mothers.

This multidisciplinary team comprises licensed professionals with expertise in early childhood development and mental health, alongside skilled non-degreed professionals who bring valuable experience and knowledge.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Deliver comprehensive case management to a caseload of 12-20 families participating in home-based services.
  • Conduct regular home visits, either weekly or bi-weekly, tailored to the specific needs of each family.
  • Design and implement home-based educational activities that effectively apply the home visiting curriculum and foster child development.
  • Utilize assessments to pinpoint areas requiring support and maintain updated plans for each family.
  • Perform child development screenings and assessments as mandated by program guidelines.
  • Collaborate with community organizations to offer resources and support to families in achieving their objectives.
  • Participate in community outreach and recruitment initiatives representing the Home Visiting Program.
  • Ensure all case files and documentation are accurately completed and maintained in accordance with program standards.
  • Engage in monthly reflective case consultations at the state level.
  • Participate actively in supervision and program staff meetings.
  • Assist in organizing family events and parent meetings.
  • Commit to ongoing professional development in management, life skills, and parent education.
  • Stay informed about community resources and family-oriented activities.
  • Adopt a family strengths perspective in all interactions.
  • Exhibit respect for the diversity of each family and foster a collaborative environment with colleagues.
  • Utilize personal transportation to ensure timely service delivery.
  • Maintain confidentiality regarding all client and organizational information.
  • Perform any additional duties as assigned by supervisory staff.

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED; or equivalent with a commitment to pursue higher education in a related field as per Home Visiting standards.
  • Understanding of child development and appreciation for the social, economic, and cultural backgrounds of families.
  • Knowledge of program focus areas such as health, parent education, or special education services.
  • Familiarity with prenatal care, infant/toddler safety, health, and early childhood mental health principles.
  • Previous experience in early childhood education, maternal/child health, or public health.
  • Experience in prenatal, infant, and toddler mental health and cognitive development.
  • Self-motivated with the ability to work independently and manage assignments effectively.
  • Flexibility to adapt to changing environments while meeting deadlines.
  • Strong communication, interpersonal, and relationship-building skills.
  • Excellent organizational abilities.
  • Proficient in computer applications, particularly Word and Excel.
  • Possess a valid and unrestricted driver's license.
  • Ability to use personal vehicle for work-related duties.
  • Maintain valid automobile insurance.
  • Pass all required background checks and drug screenings.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Fluency in both English and Spanish, with strong verbal and written communication skills.
