Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Detention Officer to join our team at the City of Hobbs, NM. As a key member of our public safety team, you will be responsible for ensuring the safe and secure operation of our detention facility.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide exceptional care and custody of prisoners, ensuring their safety and well-being.
  • Perform routine and specialized public safety work, including record keeping and technical tasks.
  • Supervise and manage inmate activities, including visitation, recreation, and work assignments.
  • Administer first aid and medical attention as needed, and distribute medication as prescribed.
  • Conduct security patrols, cell searches, and respond to emergency situations.
  • Prepare and maintain accurate records, reports, and documentation.
  • Collaborate with other departments and agencies to ensure effective communication and coordination.
Requirements
  • High school diploma or equivalent required; three years of work experience with strong people skills preferred.
  • Ability to learn and apply applicable laws, ordinances, and department rules and regulations.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with diverse groups.
  • Ability to perform physical tasks, including standing, walking, and lifting, in a fast-paced environment.
  • Valid State-issued Driver's License and ability to obtain CPR/First Aid certification.
