- The Practical Nurse Specialist is tasked with supporting patient care delivery through the nursing process, which includes assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation.
- Under the supervision of Registered Nurses, the role involves directing and guiding patient education activities based on qualifications and demonstrated competencies.
- With the oversight of a Registered Nurse, the specialist assists in evaluating the physical, psychological, and social aspects of patients within the healthcare unit and, when necessary, in housing units.
- Contributes to the planning and execution of individualized treatment programs by utilizing available resources and collaborating with registered nurses, physicians, and correctional staff.
- Implements medical directives by administering medications and interventions as per provider instructions.
- Records nursing interactions, patient responses, effectiveness, and complications, ensuring communication of relevant information to supervisory personnel and physicians, in line with provider orders.
The following criteria outline the minimum qualifications required. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
LICENSING: Current, unrestricted New Mexico Practical Nursing License
CERTIFICATION: Current CPR Certification
EDUCATION: Graduate from an accredited nursing program
PREFERRED EXPERIENCE: At least one (1) year of clinical experience; experience in correctional settings is preferred.
