**$250.00 Sign-On Bonus available for candidates who complete the entire Summer Schedule and maintain good standing.** Candidates may need to be available for training prior to the start of the summer schedule. Lifeguard certification is required before the interview.

This is a Seasonal Aquatic Supervisor role. Responsibilities will encompass both our indoor and outdoor aquatic facilities. Extended leaves of absence are not permitted as this is a temporary summer position.

POSITION SUMMARY

Responsible for developing, organizing, and executing high-quality aquatics programs at the Armed Services YMCA. Ensures safe swimming conditions in the pool, deck, and surrounding areas. Fosters a safe and welcoming environment that respects all individuals and promotes safety in alignment with ASYMCA policies and procedures. Builds positive relationships with members and program participants through effective communication and actively seeks to connect them with one another and the Y community.

Key Responsibilities

  • Directs and oversees aquatic activities to address community needs and fulfill ASYMCA objectives.
  • Establishes and maintains collaborative partnerships with community organizations.
  • Ensures maintenance of equipment and facilities.
  • Conducts active surveillance of the pool area in accordance with Red Cross or YMCA of USA certifications.
  • Participates in mandatory meetings and training sessions as scheduled.
  • Responds promptly and appropriately to ensure the safety of patrons in emergencies.
  • Reviews emergency procedures and completes necessary reports as required by ASYMCA policies.
  • Understands and consistently applies safety rules, policies, and guidelines for the aquatic area.
  • Keeps accurate records as mandated by ASYMCA and/or State Health Department regulations.
  • Regularly inspects the pool area for hazardous conditions.
  • Conducts chemical testing when not actively guarding, taking necessary actions to address any hazards.
  • Maintains alertness with no lapses in consciousness.
  • Swims assigned distances each shift to uphold endurance.
  • Exhibits a professional appearance and attitude at all times, maintaining high standards of customer service.
  • Performs additional duties as assigned by the Director.

Mandatory Certifications

  • State Criminal History Records Check
  • Completion of required ASYMCA safety training
  • American Red Cross First Aid/CPR and AED Certification
  • American Red Cross Lifeguard Certification

Physical Requirements

While performing the duties of this position, an employee is frequently required to run, swim, paddle, and walk short distances; stand and sit for extended periods; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, bend, crouch, or crawl; reach with hands and arms; communicate effectively both in person and via phone or radio; and operate lifesaving equipment. The employee regularly lifts, pushes, or pulls persons or equipment exceeding 100 pounds. Specific vision requirements include close vision, distance vision, and the ability to distinguish basic colors and shades; depth perception, peripheral vision, and the ability to adjust focus.

Work Environment

This position is primarily based at an indoor swimming facility. During summer months, work will also occur outdoors with minimal temperature control, exposing the employee to sun, heat, cold, wind, and rain; working on uneven and/or slippery surfaces; and potential hazardous conditions. The work schedule will vary based on operational needs.

Travel

No travel is required for this position.

Education and Experience

Must have availability during morning and/or midday hours.

Must be at least sixteen (16) years of age.

Knowledge of and ability to demonstrate lifeguarding skills.

Ability to work independently and exhibit energy and enthusiasm.

Ability to engage positively with the general public.
