Job Overview

** A swim assessment will be conducted during the interview process.**

**$750.00 Sign-On Bonus after 90 Days in good standing.** Availability for training may be required prior to the start of the season. Eligible for a $250 Monthly Retention Bonus after your initial 90 days while maintaining good standing.

Essential Certifications

Must possess Lifeguard and Water Safety Instructor Certifications before the interview.

Attendance Policy

No extended leaves of absence will be permitted unless authorized by Human Resources.

POSITION SUMMARY

The role involves developing, organizing, and executing high-quality aquatics programs for the Armed Services YMCA. The individual will ensure safe swimming conditions in the pool, deck, and surrounding areas while fostering a welcoming and respectful environment that promotes safety in line with ASYMCA policies. Building positive relationships with members and program participants through effective communication is key, as well as creatively connecting them to the Y community.

Key Responsibilities
  • Oversee and manage aquatic activities to address community needs and fulfill ASYMCA objectives.

• Cultivate and maintain partnerships with community organizations.

• Ensure proper maintenance of equipment and facilities.

• Conduct active surveillance of the pool area in accordance with Red Cross or YMCA of USA certifications.

• Attend mandatory meetings and training sessions as scheduled.

• Respond promptly and appropriately to ensure patron safety during emergencies.

• Review all emergency protocols and complete necessary reports as per ASYMCA guidelines.

• Understand and consistently implement safety rules, policies, and guidelines for the aquatic area.

• Maintain accurate records as required by ASYMCA and/or State Health Department regulations.

• Regularly inspect the pool area for hazardous conditions.

• Perform chemical testing when not actively guarding, and take corrective action as needed.

• Remain vigilant with no lapses in attention.

• Swim designated distances each shift to maintain physical endurance.

• Exhibit a professional demeanor and uphold high standards of customer service at all times.

• Execute all other duties as assigned by the Director.

Mandatory Certifications

State Criminal History Records Check

Completion of required ASYMCA safety training

American Red Cross First Aid/CPR and AED Certification

American Red Cross Lifeguard Certification

Physical Requirements

While performing the duties of this position, the employee frequently engages in running, swimming, paddling, and walking short distances; standing and sitting for extended periods; climbing or balancing; stooping, kneeling, bending, crouching, or crawling; reaching with hands and arms; communicating both in person and via phone or radio; and using hands to operate lifesaving equipment. The employee regularly lifts, pushes, or pulls persons or equipment exceeding 100 pounds. Specific vision requirements include close vision, distance vision, and the ability to distinguish basic colors and shades; depth perception, peripheral vision, and the ability to adjust focus.

Work Environment

This position typically operates within an indoor swimming facility. During warmer months, outdoor conditions may apply with limited temperature control, exposing the employee to sun, extreme heat, cold, wind, and rain; working on uneven and/or slippery surfaces; and occasional exposure to hazardous situations. The work schedule varies based on operational needs.

Travel Requirements

No travel is required for this position.

Education and Experience

Must have availability during morning and/or midday hours.

Must be EIGHTEEN (18) years of age or older.

Knowledge of and ability to demonstrate lifeguarding skills.

Ability to work independently with energy and enthusiasm.

Ability to engage positively with the public.

  • Lifeguard: 1 year (Preferred)
License/Certification:
  • First Aid Certification (Required)
