Job Summary:

The City of Sterling Heights is seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented DPW Laborer - Seasonal to join our team. This is a full-time, year-round position that offers a competitive hourly rate of $16.00 with opportunities for growth and advancement within the Department of Public Works.

Key Responsibilities:

• Operate City-owned vehicles, including pick-up trucks and small wheeled equipment, to and from job sites.
• Operate power tools and landscape maintenance equipment, such as mowers, trimmers, and hand tools, as required.
• Inspect and repair equipment according to departmental procedures and make repairs to City streets, right-of-ways, sidewalks, and greenspaces as needed.
• Perform turf maintenance, planting, and pruning of trees, flowers, and hedges.
• Maintain publicly owned properties, clean DPW garage, recycle centers, and facility, and perform litter control and empty trash cans.
• Maintain sanitary and storm sewers and conduct routine maintenance procedures as required.
• Sweep and clean debris and materials from roads and right-of-ways as required.
• Remove snow and ice, including manual shoveling of snow as required.
• Communicate effectively with senior staff to aid in the completion of non-skilled manual labor tasks.

Requirements:

• High School Graduate or GED equivalent.
• Minimum of 18 years of age with a valid Michigan Driver's License and a good driving record.
• Ability to follow oral and written directions.
• Requires good physical condition with the ability to perform physical labor.
• Assignments are in six-month increments, and assignment may be extended upon supervisor written approval.
