PROVIDE ASSISTANCE
In this role, you will:

  • Engage with individuals to offer support in various personal care tasks, including health and hygiene, household maintenance, nutrition, health-related appointments, and instructions regarding medication, financial systems, and shopping.
  • Collaborate with individuals in vocational, volunteer, and other meaningful community activities that align with the organization's mission.
  • Facilitate instruction and support to enhance skill development and independence in personal care scenarios.
  • Assist individuals in advocating for their needs while providing essential support in various community living tasks.
  • Identify employment barriers; aid individuals in addressing and overcoming these challenges; propose potential solutions and supportive services.
  • Coordinate instruction and support to help individuals acquire independent living skills.
  • Research opportunities that align with individuals' interests in employment, recreation, post-secondary education, and community involvement, facilitating their participation in chosen activities.
  • Provide services related to post-secondary education, including exploration, enrollment facilitation, financial aid processes, and other educational support.
  • Utilize the Emergency Response System appropriately.

DEVELOP AND IMPLEMENT SERVICE PLANS
Your responsibilities will include:

  • Promoting the philosophy of competency, self-advocacy, and independence.
  • Understanding and adhering to individualized service plans, including medical or behavioral aspects.
  • Participating in interdisciplinary team meetings as required.
  • Contributing to the development and implementation of instructional and behavioral plans.
  • Conducting interviews and assessments for service plan development.
  • Scheduling and coordinating team planning meetings as necessary.
  • Maintaining accurate progress records and submitting reports as per established protocols.

RECORD KEEPING AND REPORTING
In this capacity, you will:

  • Ensure accurate data entry and the integrity of all attendance and work records.
  • Submit detailed reports/session notes as required by your supervisor.
  • Maintain individual progress records and ensure timely report submissions.

TRANSPORTATION OF INDIVIDUALS
Your role may involve:

  • Transporting individuals as necessary, which may include the use of personal vehicles or Supportive Steps vehicles, while adhering to cleanliness and inspection requirements.
  • Assisting individuals with public and/or para transportation services as needed.

BUILDING AND MAINTAINING RELATIONSHIPS
You will also be responsible for:

  • Helping individuals establish and maintain social connections with their chosen support network, focusing on reducing reliance on paid supports.
  • Supporting individuals in community events and activities.
  • Developing and maintaining effective relationships with individuals served, their families, peers, supervisors, and community members.
  • Actively participating in weekly staff planning meetings, training sessions, and other relevant gatherings.

ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES
As part of your role, you will:

  • Provide support as a Direct Support Professional across various Supportive Steps programs, including in-home care, transportation, and community services.
  • Execute position-specific duties and other tasks as assigned by Supportive Steps.
  • Work part-time to full-time hours as needed.

QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS
EDUCATION:
A high school diploma or equivalent is required; college coursework in Special Education, Rehabilitation, Psychology, or a related field is preferred.

SPECIAL SKILLS:
The ability to provide job training, supervision, and interpersonal skills to assist individuals in relying on natural support in the workplace. Ability to negotiate and coordinate work-related issues with employers.

EXPERIENCE:
Previous experience working with individuals with intellectual/developmental disabilities is desirable. Strong customer service skills and a commitment to helping others achieve their goals are essential. Proficiency in the primary language used in the workplace (English) is required.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • A physical condition that allows for frequent bending, turning, and lifting without injury.
  • Ability to operate a vehicle during your shift.
  • Ability to walk and stand for extended periods.
  • Capability to assist individuals in wheelchairs.
  • Provide personal care to individuals, including restroom assistance and feeding.
  • Lift at least 40 pounds.
  • Clearance of pre-employment Functional Capacity Evaluation with no restrictions that cannot be reasonably accommodated.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Second language proficiency is a plus.
  • Valid California driver's license.
  • Insured, reliable vehicle.
  • Proof of current auto insurance.
  • On-Duty Meal Period Waiver.
  • First Aid and CPR certification.
  • Criminal Record Clearance.
  • RBT Certification.
  • DSP1 and DSP2 certifications.
