PROVIDE ASSISTANCE

  • Engage with individuals to offer support in personal care tasks, including health and hygiene, household maintenance, nutrition, health-related appointments, and guidance on medication, financial systems, and shopping.
  • Participate alongside individuals in vocational, volunteer, and other meaningful community activities that reflect the organization's philosophy.
  • Facilitate instruction and support to enhance skill development and independence, including personal care assistance.
  • Assist individuals in advocating for their needs while providing essential support in various community living tasks.
  • Identify employment barriers; assist individuals in overcoming these challenges; propose potential solutions and supportive services.
  • Coordinate instruction and support to help individuals acquire independent living skills.
  • Research opportunities that align with the individual’s interests in employment, recreation, further education, and community involvement, facilitating their participation in chosen activities.
  • Provide services related to further education, including exploration, enrollment facilitation, financial aid processes, and other educational support.
  • Understand and appropriately utilize the Emergency Response System.

DEVELOP AND IMPLEMENT SERVICE PLANS

  • Promote the philosophy of competency, self-advocacy, and independence.
  • Understand and adhere to individualized service plans, including medical or behavioral aspects.
  • Participate in interdisciplinary team meetings as requested.
  • Contribute to the development and implementation of instructional and behavioral plans.
  • Conduct interviews and assessments to prepare for service plan development.
  • Schedule, coordinate, and attend team planning meetings as necessary.
  • Maintain accurate progress records and submit reports as per established protocols.

RECORD KEEPING AND REPORTING

  • Ensure accurate data entry and maintain the integrity of attendance and work records.
  • Submit precise reports/session notes as required by supervisory staff.
  • Maintain individual progress records and ensure report accuracy according to procedures.

TRANSPORTATION OF INDIVIDUALS

  • Transport individuals as necessary, which may involve using a personal vehicle or Supportive Steps vehicles, while adhering to cleanliness and inspection requirements.
  • Assist individuals with public and/or para transportation services as needed.

BUILD AND MAINTAIN RELATIONSHIPS

  • Assist individuals in forming and sustaining social connections with chosen persons and their support circle, focusing on reducing reliance on paid supports.
  • Engage and participate alongside individuals in community events and activities.
  • Establish and maintain effective relationships with individuals served, their families, peers, supervisors, and community members.
  • Attend and actively participate in weekly staff planning meetings, training sessions, and other relevant gatherings.

ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Provide support as a Direct Support Professional across various Supportive Steps programs, including in-home care, transportation, and community services.
  • Execute position-specific duties and other responsibilities as assigned by Supportive Steps.
  • Part-time to full-time positions available.

EDUCATION:
A high school diploma or equivalent is required; college coursework in Special Education, Rehabilitation, Psychology, or a related field is preferred.

SPECIAL SKILLS:
Ability to provide job training and supervision, and to assist individuals in utilizing natural support in the workplace. Capable of negotiating and coordinating work-related issues with employers.

EXPERIENCE:
Previous experience working with individuals with intellectual/developmental disabilities is desirable. Strong customer service skills and a passion for helping others achieve their goals are essential. Proficiency in the primary workplace language (English) is required.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Ability to frequently bend, turn, and lift without injury.
  • Capability to operate a vehicle during part of the shift.
  • Ability to walk and stand for extended periods.
  • Assist individuals in wheelchairs.
  • Provide personal care, including restroom assistance and feeding.
  • Lift a minimum of 40 pounds.
  • Clearance of pre-employment Functional Capacity Evaluation without restrictions that cannot be reasonably accommodated.

MAY REQUIRE ONE OR MORE OF THE FOLLOWING:

  • Second language proficiency is a plus.
  • Valid driver's license.
  • Insured, reliable vehicle.
  • Proof of current auto insurance.
  • On-Duty Meal Period Waiver.
  • First Aid and CPR certification.
  • Criminal Record Clearance.
  • RBT Certification.
  • DSP1 and DSP2 certifications.
