About the Team

The U.S. Program (USP) of the foundation aims to ensure equitable access to transformative opportunities for all individuals in the United States, regardless of race, ethnicity, or income. Our educational initiatives focus on providing all students, particularly those from Black, Latinx, and low-income backgrounds, with the resources needed to achieve their academic and career goals. We also work to enhance collaboration among stakeholders to promote economic mobility. The USP targets five key areas:

• Enhance early childhood education systems to deliver high-quality learning experiences.

• Support K-12 schools in improving student performance.

• Transform higher education institutions to boost student success and close achievement gaps.

• Collaborate with stakeholders to provide resources and strategies for overcoming barriers to opportunity and fostering economic mobility.

• In Washington State, improve the tools and practices of educators and caregivers to ensure equitable opportunities for all students to realize their potential.

Our focus is on expanding access to life-changing opportunities, particularly for Black and Latino students and those experiencing poverty. We recognize that education alone is insufficient; external factors significantly influence student success. Therefore, we also support initiatives aimed at understanding and enhancing economic mobility, creating sustainable pathways out of poverty for families and communities.

Your Role

As a vital member of the USP Data's Strategy, Planning & Management (SPM) team, the Senior Officer will oversee strategic and operational functions, including strategic planning, annual budgeting, investment management, business analysis, and coordination of strategies across the foundation. This role requires effective engagement at all organizational levels and productive collaboration with peers, partners, leaders, staff, and consultants, while exercising sound judgment. The Senior Officer will guide the team towards a focus on racial and socio-economic equity.

Key Responsibilities

Lead a team in developing and managing strategic planning, investment, financial, and operational processes, including the investment development cycle, annual planning, strategy reviews, decision support, and budget management. Provide critical thought partnership to the Deputy Director for Strategy, Planning & Management and program strategy teams, collaborating with program leadership to enhance investment impact and ensure effective learning and decision-making. Assist program leadership in translating strategic goals into coherent investment plans and theories of action, ensuring alignment and impact on key objectives. Monitor grant and contract pipelines to manage budgets and produce accurate forecasts, establishing processes to track performance against milestones and outcomes. Articulate strategy and progress narratives, including strategy reviews, initiative development, annual plans, and execution planning. Facilitate process definition and improvement to enhance staff productivity, identifying gaps and inefficiencies that hinder effectiveness. Maintain connections with teams across the U.S. Program and align with cross-foundation operational initiatives to maximize impact. Serve as the primary liaison between the program and business partners regarding business processes, financial reporting, and operational success. Design and manage special projects to support team operations and programmatic investments. Promote diverse, equitable, and inclusive practices to foster a work environment where all individuals can contribute effectively.

Qualifications

Strong portfolio and team management skills, with a proven track record in managing complex projects related to strategy development and business process redesign. Excellent consultative and advisory skills, with the ability to build trust and motivate team members. Outstanding collaboration skills, comfortable working within a team-oriented environment. Ability to independently determine methods and processes, prioritize tasks, and alternate between strategic thinking and high-quality execution. Proficiency in facilitating discussions, synthesizing diverse viewpoints, and communicating key insights effectively. Experience in creating analytical models/tools and conveying results to inform strategic decisions. Financial acumen, including budget development and operational management skills. Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to synthesize information for diverse audiences. Bachelor's degree with 7+ years of relevant experience or equivalent qualifications required; MBA or advanced degree preferred.
