About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Deputy Director to join our Foundation Strategy Office team at the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation. As a key member of our leadership team, you will play a critical role in shaping the strategic direction of our organization and driving impact in our mission to eradicate poverty, disease, and inequity around the world.

Key Responsibilities
  • Strategy Development and Implementation: Provide oversight and guidance on strategy projects, ensuring they are analytically grounded, aligned with the foundation's comparative advantage, and can be completed with fidelity.
  • Client Relationship Management: Establish and maintain effective relationships with key stakeholders, including directors and senior leaders, to ensure informed decision-making and provide strategic advice.
  • Project Scoping and Management: Structure, sequence, and identify dependencies in the overall development and execution of strategies, managing and monitoring project performance and resources.
  • Execution and Performance Management: Support the team in ensuring successful execution of strategy development and translation into implementation, developing and improving methodologies to enhance strategy performance.
  • Thought Leadership: Contribute to the foundation's strategic thinking, providing insights and expertise to inform strategic decisions and drive impact.
Requirements
  • Advanced Degree or Equivalent Experience: A master's degree or equivalent experience in a relevant field, such as business, public policy, or international development.
  • Comprehensive Strategy Development Experience: Proven experience in strategy development, implementation, and management, with a strong track record of driving impact and achieving results.
  • Leadership and Management Experience: Demonstrated experience in leading and managing teams, with a strong ability to motivate and develop high-performing teams.
  • Strong Analytical and Problem-Solving Skills: Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to synthesize complex information and develop creative solutions.
  • Excellent Communication and Interpersonal Skills: Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build trust and establish effective relationships with stakeholders.
