Job Summary

InGenesis is seeking a skilled Referral Coordinator Specialist to join our team. As a Referral Coordinator Specialist, you will play a critical role in processing referrals for off-site specialty consults and follow-up medical appointments.

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare, update, and maintain medical referrals to ensure accurate and timely processing.
  • Coordinate the purchase or rental of durable medical equipment to support patient care.
  • Establish and maintain effective communication with off-site community medical providers to schedule appointments.
  • Monitor and track compliance with scheduled patient appointments to ensure seamless care delivery.
  • Identify and address documentation inconsistencies in referrals within the electronic Health Record (eHR) to ensure compliance and resolution.
  • Coordinate transportation and prepare sealed medical record packets for secure transmission.
  • Handle all correspondence requiring authorizations for payment of medical services to ensure timely reimbursement.
  • Prepare and submit reports to ensure accurate completion of referrals before transmission for payment and correct any errors found.
  • Assist in reconciling and resolving denied outside provider claims to minimize financial losses.
  • Perform record-keeping functions to maintain accurate and up-to-date patient information.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required; 1+ year of experience in a healthcare setting as a medical record technician, medical record clerk, or similar position preferred.
  • 1+ year of experience scheduling medical appointments, such as radiology procedures, specialty consults, follow-up appointments, and surgical procedures.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills to effectively interact with patients, providers, and internal stakeholders.
  • Knowledge of basic principles and standards of eHR procedures and methods.
  • Basic fluency in medical terminology and knowledge of Current Procedural Terminology (CPT) codes.
  • Knowledge of and functional proficiency in common Microsoft Office programs.
  • Knowledge of HIPAA/Privacy Act and Personally Identifiable Information (PII) handling procedures.
  • Verbal proficiency in Spanish (desired but not required).
