This role is situated within the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), specifically within the Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) division, focusing on Enforcement and Removal Operations (ERO). The position is part of the ICE Health Service Corps (IHSC) and operates under the guidance of the Nurse Manager, Health Services Administrator, and Clinical Director. This is a non-supervisory role.


Key Responsibilities:
  • Deliver direct nursing care to detainees, utilizing comprehensive knowledge of nursing principles and practices.
  • Execute nursing procedures as directed, adhering to established protocols and guidelines.
  • Maintain accurate documentation of all patient interactions, ensuring compliance with established formats.
  • Assess patient needs and develop appropriate nursing care plans.
  • Gather medical histories from detainees and refer any identified medical issues to the appropriate healthcare provider.
  • Conduct nursing triage and screening during patient visits, referring cases as necessary.
  • Utilize interpretation services to facilitate communication with non-English speaking detainees.
  • Provide daily nursing care in Medical Housing Units and report any significant findings to the healthcare team.
  • Coordinate healthcare needs with the medical team and manage referrals to external providers.
  • Educate patients on health-related topics in accordance with agency guidelines.
  • Respond to emergency medical situations as required, providing necessary treatment.
  • Administer medications following established safety protocols and guidelines.
  • Maintain medical equipment and ensure quality control of laboratory supplies.
  • Participate in infection control and safety measures as outlined by agency directives.

Qualifications:

Applicants must possess a Bachelor’s degree in Nursing and hold a valid nursing license. A minimum of zero to two years of professional nursing experience is preferred. Candidates should demonstrate strong interpersonal skills, cultural competency, and the ability to communicate effectively in both written and verbal formats.
