Job Summary:
The Akron Board of Education is considering a potential opening for a Substitute Paraprofessional.

Supervisor: Building Principal

Key Responsibilities:
- Adhere to a schedule set by the Principal.
- Report to the Principal, Coordinator of Support Staff, and Director of Special Education.
- Follow instructions from the Principal and classroom teacher.
- Assist in escorting students in and out of the building during various times.
- Support students with personal hygiene and assist with toileting needs as required.
- Ensure that equipment and supplies used by students are clean and ready for use.
- Help implement therapy plans (PT, OT, SLH) and assist in the lunchroom with feeding and supervision.
- Aid students in navigating the building and using necessary equipment.
- Maintain accurate inventory of materials and equipment.
- Assist in emergency situations and supervise students during recess and lunch.
- Collect attendance and meal information.
- Support students in completing assigned work and operating classroom technology.
- Maintain confidentiality regarding student records and other sensitive information.
- Promote positive interactions with staff, students, and parents.

Qualifications:
- High School Diploma or G.E.D.
- Must meet one of the following criteria to be considered Highly Qualified:
1. Complete at least two years of study at an Institute of Higher Education (48 Semester or 72 Quarter Hours).
2. Hold an Associate (or higher) Degree from an Accredited Institution of Higher Education.
3. Pass the Test for Paraprofessionals.
- Satisfactory background checks are required.
- Must provide two professional references.
- A high degree of physical stamina is necessary for restraining students and lifting.
- Compliance with state and federal guidelines for instructional assistants is mandatory.

Work Environment:
- Frequent exposure to various classroom equipment and materials.
- Regularly required to lift, stand, walk, talk, hear, see, read, and perform physical activities.
- Must be prepared to manage challenging situations with students effectively.
