Senior Academic Advisor

The University of Oklahoma is in search of a Senior Academic Advisor. This role is pivotal in steering and managing the academic advising center, enhancing student support programs, and overseeing program operations. The Senior Academic Advisor acts as a key figure on campus and plays an integral role in the Provost's Advisory Committee on Academic Advising's (PACAA) Advising Leadership Council. Additionally, this position encompasses a range of administrative, advisory, and counseling responsibilities.

Key Responsibilities Include:

  • Overseeing all functions of the academic advising unit.
  • Implementing equitable hiring and supervisory practices in line with Human Resource regulations.
  • Facilitating onboarding training to ensure advising staff are knowledgeable about university, state, and federal guidelines.
  • Leading initiatives aimed at improving the quality and delivery of academic advising services.
  • Creating a supportive environment that promotes respectful interactions among staff, students, faculty, and administrative leaders.
  • Providing guidance and support in managing daily student engagements.
  • Encouraging team members to seek professional development opportunities that enhance their expertise, support career growth, and promote best practices.
  • Monitoring student enrollment trends and making informed decisions regarding advisor assignments.
  • Keeping abreast of policy changes that affect degree progression and completion.
  • Utilizing advanced problem-solving and decision-making skills to address complex student cases.
  • Coordinating withdrawal petitions and enrollment decisions in collaboration with relevant departments.
  • Engaging with strategies, tools, and technologies aimed at improving student retention.
  • Organizing student programs to facilitate connections with departmental resources and engagement opportunities.
  • Collaborating with the Office of Admissions and Recruitment to highlight academic majors and degree pathways for prospective students.
  • Representing the advising unit at various campus events.
  • Managing departmental operations, including budget oversight.
  • Defining unit outcomes, developing metrics, and collecting and analyzing data to enhance advising practices.
  • Identifying key issues and areas for ongoing improvement.
  • Handling administrative responsibilities such as time management, leave coordination, and other personnel matters.
  • Maintaining direct communication with the Associate Provost for Academic Advising to ensure alignment with campus strategic goals.
  • Actively participating in PACA's Advising Leadership Council to address critical needs, shape best practices, and uphold high standards of excellence.
  • Dedication to developing areas of expertise and pursuing continuous professional growth.
  • Serving as a Campus Security Authority (CSA) by fulfilling training and reporting obligations related to campus safety protocols.
  • Executing various duties as necessary to effectively fulfill the responsibilities of the position.
