Job Overview

The Chief Legal Officer is integral to the organization, fulfilling dual responsibilities. Primarily, this role supports the General Counsel in navigating legal and risk management challenges. Additionally, it involves overseeing ethics inquiries and arbitration processes.

Key Responsibilities:

Legal Management:

  • Collaborates with the General Counsel to manage legal operations for MIBOR.
  • Ensures that MIBOR's governing documents, including Articles of Incorporation and bylaws, are up-to-date and accessible.
  • Conducts legal research, prepares briefs, and monitors litigation while responding to subpoenas and discovery requests.
  • Assists in the review and negotiation of contracts and agreements.
  • Supports the General Counsel in matters concerning the Risk Reduction Committee.
  • Provides administrative assistance, including organizing files, scheduling meetings, and managing correspondence.
  • Coordinates the ethics complaint and arbitration processes, serving as a liaison to the Professional Standards Committee.
  • Facilitates the assembly of hearing panels and informs parties about the procedures for ethics and arbitration hearings.
  • Manages the processing of ethics complaints and arbitration requests, ensuring efficient communication and documentation throughout the hearing process.
  • Attends hearings and drafts decisions for review by the General Counsel.
  • Handles post-hearing communications, including the distribution of written decisions and managing appeals.
  • Acts as a backup for the Director of Professional Services and the Compliance Specialist.
  • Stays informed about trends and changes in the real estate sector, preparing articles for publication.
  • Develops strategies to communicate ethics and best practices in business conduct.
  • Contributes to training and professional development initiatives across various departments.
