Position Overview

The Indiana Youth Institute (IYI) is seeking a Chief Financial Officer who is:

The Chief Financial Officer (CFO) will lead the financial strategy and oversight of the organization, ensuring all fiscal responsibilities for IYI and the collaborative Indiana Youth Worker Well-being Project are met. Reporting directly to the President and Chief Executive Officer, this role is integral to IYI's Leadership Team, providing both strategic and operational management of accounting, compliance, financial planning, and budgeting to enhance the Foundation's impact. Additionally, the CFO will oversee human resources and facility operations.

Key Responsibilities

Financial Strategy and Management
  • Develop and execute the organization’s annual and long-term financial strategies, including revenue projections and expense management aligned with IYI's mission and strategic objectives.
  • Collaborate with executive leadership to facilitate board processes, including support for audit and investment committees, and provide analysis for financial decision-making.
  • Manage cash flow and forecasting, establishing a reliable cash flow projection process to meet operational needs.
  • Enhance banking relationships and implement strategies to improve cash positions.
  • Oversee the relationship with IYI's investment advisor, ensuring alignment with Board directives.
  • Evaluate financial implications of new initiatives in collaboration with the President/CEO and relevant partners.
Accounting and Compliance
  • Supervise all financial accounts, ledgers, and reporting systems, ensuring adherence to Generally Accepted Accounting Principles and regulatory requirements.
  • Maintain internal controls and coordinate audit activities.
  • Lead the month-end closing process, ensuring timely and accurate financial reporting.
  • Review monthly financial reports and ensure compliance with relevant laws and tax obligations.
  • Manage annual financial audits and the preparation of the organization’s audited financial statements.
Human Resources Oversight
  • Direct all human resources functions, serving as the primary contact for related matters.
  • Manage relationships with benefit providers and oversee talent acquisition processes.
  • Ensure effective onboarding and offboarding of employees, along with regular updates to personnel policies.
Team Leadership
  • Oversee the finance team, including work allocation, training, and performance evaluation.
  • Foster a culture of continuous improvement and professional development within the team.
  • Provide strategic advice to the President & CEO and collaborate closely with other senior management.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Management, or Finance required; Master's degree and/or CPA preferred.
  • Minimum of 15 years of progressive experience, including 3-5 years in a CFO role or equivalent, preferably in a nonprofit setting.
  • Proven strategic leadership and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong knowledge of nonprofit accounting, compliance, and reporting.
  • Exceptional leadership and communication skills.
  • Expertise in financial policies, practices, and systems.
