Position Overview
The Postdoctoral Research Associate will engage in advanced research within the realms of nuclear and particle physics at a leading laboratory. Responsibilities include assisting in the design, simulation, and execution of experiments, as well as analyzing experimental data and authoring scientific publications. The role also involves contributing to the development of new research proposals and mentoring graduate and undergraduate students involved in laboratory projects.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct thorough analysis of experimental data.
- Execute computer simulations to forecast detector responses and acceptance criteria for experiments.
- Draft and submit scientific manuscripts for publication.
- Prepare innovative research proposals for collaborative review and submission.
- Provide guidance and mentorship to graduate and undergraduate students engaged in research projects.
Additional Responsibilities
- Foster a collaborative and inclusive work environment that promotes teamwork and diversity.
- Collaborate with colleagues across the institution to align with strategic priorities.
- Perform other related duties as assigned to support the objectives of the College of Natural Sciences.
Qualifications
- PhD in experimental nuclear or particle physics.
Preferred Qualifications
- Proficiency in the ROOT analysis framework, along with programming skills in C++ and Python.
- Experience in developing neural networks for particle identification, including but not limited to electron, muon, and pion identification.
- Familiarity with electromagnetic calorimeters, drift chambers, and multi-wire proportional counters.
- Experience in running GEANT simulations to model detector responses and experimental acceptance.
Work Environment
- This position is based entirely at the laboratory, and the successful candidate should be prepared to relocate.
Work Schedule
- Standard work hours are Monday through Friday, from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM.
Compensation
- Annual salary is competitive and commensurate with experience.
