POSITION SUMMARY


This role is pivotal in overseeing the Mechanical Integrity (MI) operations at Targa, focusing on the enhancement of safety, regulatory compliance, and the dependability of equipment.

The MI Operations Supervisor will lead the team responsible for conducting inspections and maintenance of fixed equipment, adhering to relevant API standards and Targa's corporate MI strategy.

This position involves direct management of Targa's inspectors and coordination with external MI resources as necessary.

Collaborating closely with the MI Manager, the MI Operations Supervisor will contribute to the advancement of API-based initiatives within the organization.

Additionally, this role encompasses participation in both internal and external audits, risk assessments, and process hazard analyses (PHAs).

This position is crucial for maintaining the safe and reliable functioning of Targa's operations.

KEY FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Formulate, execute, and uphold Mechanical Integrity (MI) inspection strategies for all fixed assets;
  • Organize routine evaluations of fixed equipment to pinpoint potential safety risks and devise corrective measures as required;
  • Sustain the MI database (PCMS) with comprehensive equipment records, including inspection and repair documentation;
  • Mentor and train the facility's API Inspectors tasked with the inspection and upkeep of fixed assets;
  • Ensure all repairs, maintenance, and modifications to fixed equipment are performed safely and effectively, minimizing operational disruptions;
  • Offer technical guidance and assistance to various departments, including operations, maintenance, and engineering, regarding fixed equipment and MI matters;
  • Engage in incident investigations related to fixed equipment and propose corrective actions to avert future occurrences;
  • Develop and oversee budgets for MI initiatives, encompassing costs related to inspections, testing, and repairs;
  • Demonstrate knowledge of codes, standards, and regulations pertinent to the refining, petrochemical, or downstream energy sectors;
  • Provide technical support to engineering teams on capital projects;
  • Supervise fixed equipment installation, troubleshooting, repair, and commissioning activities;
  • Adhere to all relevant safety regulations, including Targa's protocols and procedures;
  • Maintain auditory attention and sensitivity, as the ability to discern various sounds is critical for maintenance and safety indicators;
  • Perform additional work-related tasks as required;
  • Consistent and reliable attendance is mandatory;
  • Other responsibilities as assigned;
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering or a related Engineering Degree from an accredited institution;
  • At least 5 years of experience in the refining, petrochemical, or midstream process sectors;
  • Familiarity with relevant industry codes, including API 510, API 570, API 653, and B31.3;
  • Strong understanding of Process Safety Management (PSM) and PHA methodologies;
  • Experience in supervising or leading teams;
  • Proficient in using Plant Condition Monitoring System (PCMS) or similar Integrity Data Management Systems (IDMS);
  • Experience with Maximo or other computerized maintenance management systems;
  • Ability to interpret P&IDs and isometric drawings of piping systems and pressure vessels;
  • Possess or be willing to obtain training in metallurgy;
  • Possess or be willing to obtain training in corrosion;
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, including Word and Excel;
  • Capable of effective interaction with all organizational levels and external entities;
  • Comply with all applicable Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) standards;
  • Strong interpersonal communication skills to engage with various crafts, personnel, contractors, and clients;
  • Ability to work independently with provided direction and resources;
  • Strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills, with sound judgment;
  • Valid driver's license required;
  • Valid TWIC card required;
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • 5-10 years of experience in the refining, petrochemical, or midstream process sectors;
  • Experience with heat exchangers, piping systems, tanks, and process vessels;
  • Familiarity with marine facilities;
  • Experience with Power BI;
  • Experience with Microsoft Project;
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, capable of providing courteous customer service and collaborating effectively with diverse groups;
  • Ability to work accurately under pressure and meet deadlines;
  • Flexibility to adapt to changing assignments and priorities based on unit needs;
  • Strong organizational, time management, customer service, and problem-solving skills;
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • Ability to lift, push, and pull up to 50 pounds;
  • Capability to work in varying climate conditions and a plant environment;
  • Ability to work in confined spaces, including kneeling, squatting, sitting, climbing, and standing;
  • Follow and adhere to all applicable Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) guidelines;


  • The employee frequently is required to stand, walk, use hands to manipulate objects, and reach with hands and arms;
