As a leader in manufacturing low- and medium-voltage electrical and electronic equipment, Powell Industries is renowned for its high-quality products, including advanced vacuum circuit breakers, control electronics, and safety systems. In this role, you will be part of our Research and Development team, focusing on the design, validation, and technical support of industrial electronic products from initial concept through to full-scale production. You will collaborate with manufacturers, clients, and internal teams to ensure successful product launches.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop and execute plans for the design and validation of industrial electronic products tailored for switchgear applications, including both new developments and enhancements to existing offerings.
- Identify and assess alternative electronic components for integration into established product designs.
- Oversee validation and certification processes for industrial electronic hardware.
- Create and maintain comprehensive technical documentation throughout the product development lifecycle.
- Coordinate with the R&D Manager to establish work plans and ensure the accuracy and quality of deliverables.
- Collaborate with the R&D Manager to strategize manufacturing processes for high-volume production of developed products.
- Provide ongoing support for existing electronic products, addressing needs from both the company and its clientele.
- Engage in teamwork within the department and across functions to deliver required electronic solutions.
- Adhere to company procedures and standards consistently.
- Continuously update and enhance your knowledge of emerging technologies to improve our product offerings.
- Perform additional duties as assigned that align with your capabilities.
- Bachelor's Degree in Electronic Engineering or a related field.
- At least 1 year of experience in an industrial electronic product development role (internships may count towards experience).
- Strong organizational and time management skills.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, particularly in technical documentation and presentations.
- Proven analytical and problem-solving abilities.
- Ability to prioritize tasks and manage time effectively.
- Membership in a professional society is a plus.
- Experience with microcontrollers in embedded industrial applications.
- Understanding of analogue electronics and signal processing.
- Knowledge of power supply design and power electronics.
- Familiarity with EMI/EMC design and testing.
- Experience in hardware and software integration.
- Skills in electronic mechanical construction and design techniques.
- Knowledge of electrical switchgear and control systems for industrial power management.
- Proficiency with Altium ECAD tools.
- Experience with Autodesk Inventor.
- Understanding of RTOS principles and operations.
- Embedded software development experience in C.
- PC-based software development experience.
- Awareness of regulatory standards such as ANSI, IEEE, and IEC.
- Typically operates in a climate-controlled environment.
- Physical requirements include effective communication, dexterity in using a computer, and the ability to perform essential job functions.
- Some tasks may involve laboratory and shop environments, with exposure to various elements.
- Fieldwork may be required, with potential exposure to construction sites or active facilities.
