Position Overview

We are currently seeking a per-diem Driver to assist at a local homeless shelter. The primary responsibility of the Driver will be to transport clients using agency vehicles to essential appointments and to fulfill basic needs. Additionally, the Driver will be tasked with coordinating the collection of food donations from various organizations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Uphold the rules, regulations, and policies of the shelter.
  • Provide transportation for clients to necessary appointments, including DOL and DSS.
  • Ensure all passengers are using safety belts and that children are secured in appropriate car seats.
  • Coordinate weekly food donation pickups from partner agencies.
  • Conduct daily safety inspections of the vehicle and report any concerns to the Assistant Program Director.
  • Maintain monthly vehicle logs and submit them to the Assistant Program Director.
  • Ensure that all vehicles are properly registered and insured.
  • Perform routine maintenance on the vehicle as needed.
  • Address any safety issues within the vehicle and remove hazardous items.
  • Establish and maintain appropriate boundaries with clients while adhering to confidentiality and HIPAA protocols.
  • Participate in staff meetings and training sessions as required.
  • Collaborate with security personnel to address and resolve client-related incidents.
  • Carry out additional duties as assigned.
  • Familiarize oneself with the Policy and Procedure Manual.

Qualifications

A High School Diploma or equivalent is required.

A minimum of one year of experience working with children and families is essential.

Proficiency in computer applications, including Microsoft Office, is necessary.

Strong interpersonal and communication skills are required.

A valid and clean NYS Driver's License is mandatory.

Bilingual candidates, particularly in Spanish, are preferred.

Flexibility to work at various locations is preferred.

Availability to work weekends is required.
