Position Overview

We are currently seeking a per-diem Advocate to provide support at a homeless shelter. This role is crucial in ensuring the safety and well-being of families and children residing in the shelter. The Advocate will be tasked with enforcing shelter policies, managing intake processes, and conducting regular safety checks.

Key Responsibilities

  • Maintain composure and exercise sound judgment in high-pressure situations.
  • Assist with special projects as assigned.
  • Conduct intake assessments for new clients.
  • Offer ongoing support and guidance to clients in achieving their personal goals.
  • Foster and maintain positive relationships with clients and colleagues.
  • Collaborate effectively to set objectives, address challenges, and improve program outcomes.
  • Implement conflict resolution techniques when necessary.
  • Perform regular safety perimeter checks.
  • Document and address rule violations appropriately.
  • Facilitate access to personal belongings for clients.
  • Supervise clients during medication self-administration.
  • Assist with meal service.
  • Oversee bedtime routines, including the distribution of bedding and linens.
  • Conduct routine checks of sleeping areas and bathrooms, maintaining safety logs.
  • Manage clothing donations as needed.
  • Supervise shower schedules and distribute hygiene products.
  • Accurately report and document incidents as they occur.
  • Provide transportation for clients when required.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Available Shifts:

  • 12:00 AM - 8:00 AM
  • 8:00 AM - 4:00 PM
  • 4:00 PM - 12:00 AM

Qualifications

A High School Diploma or GED is required. A minimum of one year of experience in human services is preferred. Proficiency in computer applications, including Microsoft Office, is necessary. A valid and clean NYS Driver's License is also required.

Additional Requirements

Flexibility to work at various locations is preferred, along with the ability to work weekends.
