Position Summary

The Wallace H. Coulter Department of Biomedical Engineering invites applications for a faculty position focused on practical applications in biomedical engineering. This role is designed for individuals with significant professional experience in biomedical product design and development. Candidates should demonstrate a strong commitment to teaching excellence and mentoring students across undergraduate and graduate programs.

We seek candidates who can primarily instruct in our undergraduate design curriculum and also contribute to the Masters of Biomedical Innovation and Development (MBID) program. Areas of expertise may include capstone design, regulatory affairs, medical device development, project management, and quality engineering.

Key Responsibilities

The primary focus of this position is teaching, with a typical load of six courses per academic year, primarily at the undergraduate level. Faculty members are also encouraged to engage in departmental service and professional development. While research is not mandatory, support for ongoing professional endeavors is available.

Responsibilities include:

  • Developing and managing partnerships with the biomedical industry to create practical projects and define mentorship opportunities.
  • Conducting classroom instruction and course development.
  • Mentoring student teams in design projects.
  • Leveraging professional experience to enhance educational offerings.
Qualifications

Required:

  • A minimum of ten years of relevant experience with a recognized reputation in the field.
  • A strong background in biomedical engineering or related disciplines.

Preferred:

  • Experience in medical product development.
  • A degree in an engineering discipline.
  • A proven track record of mentoring and team collaboration.

Successful candidates will have demonstrated experience in biomedical engineering innovation, particularly in product design and development, regulatory compliance, and quality systems. A robust professional network within the life sciences or medical device sectors is advantageous.
