Position SummaryThe Wallace H. Coulter Department of Biomedical Engineering invites applications for a faculty position focused on practical applications in biomedical engineering. This role is ideal for candidates with substantial professional experience in product design and development, who are committed to educational excellence and mentoring students.
Successful candidates will primarily teach in our undergraduate design program and may also contribute to the Masters of Biomedical Innovation and Development (MBID) program. Topics may include capstone design, regulatory affairs, and medical device development. Our programs have a strong track record of success in entrepreneurship and design competitions.
Key ResponsibilitiesThe primary focus of this position is teaching, with a typical load of six courses annually, primarily at the undergraduate level. Faculty members are encouraged to engage in departmental service and professional development. While research is not mandatory, faculty are supported in pursuing ongoing professional interests.
Responsibilities also include developing partnerships with the biomedical industry, classroom instruction, course development, and mentoring student teams. Candidates should possess professional experience and a network within biomedical engineering device design, along with a solid understanding of product development processes.
QualificationsRequired:
- A minimum of ten years of relevant experience and a recognized reputation in the field.
- A comprehensive background in disciplines related to biomedical engineering.
Preferred:
- Experience in medical product development.
- A degree in an engineering discipline.
- A history of mentoring and team collaboration.
Successful candidates will demonstrate expertise in biomedical engineering innovation, including product design and regulatory processes. A network in the life sciences or medical device industry is advantageous.
