Key Responsibilities:

  • Ensure responsible lending practices while safeguarding the financial interests of our members and the credit union, with a focus on timely processing of applications from various sources.
  • Analyze and underwrite applications for personal, auto, and home equity loans, adhering to credit union policies and regulatory standards. Provide clear documentation and reasoning for credit decisions.
  • Review credit reports, income documentation, tax returns, and other relevant materials to assess borrower risk.
  • Make informed decisions regarding loan approvals, denials, or conditions based on established criteria and risk assessments.
  • Maintain compliance with regulatory standards and internal policies, staying informed about changes in consumer lending laws and regulations.
  • Act as a liaison for loan originators and processing teams, collaborating with colleagues and external partners to gather necessary information and resolve discrepancies.
  • Serve as a knowledgeable resource on consumer lending products and underwriting practices, offering guidance to team members.
  • Foster and maintain strong relationships with internal staff and external partners to support consumer lending objectives.

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required; some post-secondary education preferred.
  • A minimum of 3 years of experience in a lending environment within a credit union or financial institution is required, with at least 1 year in consumer loan underwriting.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of consumer loan policies, credit criteria, interest calculations, and required documentation for various loan types.
  • Ability to interpret major credit bureau reports and financial statements, including tax returns.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with persistence in overcoming challenges to serve members effectively.
  • Intermediate mathematical skills for calculations involving decimals, percentages, and fractions.
  • Ability to apply established practices to complex situations, requiring creativity and resourcefulness.
  • Proficient in computer skills and experience with consumer loan software.
  • Compliance with all consumer lending regulatory requirements is essential.
