Position Overview: The Community Organizer will lead, coordinate, and inspire local youth to become advocates for their community by facilitating educational initiatives, planning, and overseeing youth-led services and advocacy efforts. This role will oversee the Youth for Single Room Occupancy (YSRO) program, providing guidance and support to youth participants, volunteers, and interns. The organizer will also manage community service-learning initiatives, including digital literacy programs and disaster preparedness workshops for underserved populations.

Employment Type: Full-time, Nonexempt, Regular

Work Environment: The position is based in a vibrant community setting with flexible hours, including evenings and weekends as necessary.

Compensation: $34.84 per hour, along with a comprehensive benefits package.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Management of YSRO Program: Oversee the YSRO initiative, directing youth engagement and leadership development.
  • Youth Empowerment: Mobilize and mentor local youth to become community leaders through:
    • Planning and executing youth-led advocacy projects.
    • Facilitating meetings and workshops for YSRO participants.
    • Developing and delivering leadership training programs.
    • Coordinating service-learning activities, including intergenerational projects and community-building events.
    • Recruiting and supervising youth interns and volunteers.
    • Organizing social events to foster community among youth.
    • Building partnerships with local youth programs and agencies.
    • Representing the organization at community meetings and public forums.
    • Advocating for youth-related issues within the community.
  • Collaborative Efforts: Work alongside other staff members on joint initiatives and contribute to a positive work environment.
  • Additional Duties: Maintain strong relationships with youth organizations and contribute to the overall mission of the organization.

Qualifications:

  • Bilingual in Chinese and English.
  • 1-2 years of experience in youth program management and community engagement.
  • Experience in program planning and training facilitation.
  • Knowledge of community issues relevant to the Chinatown neighborhood.
  • Proficient in grant writing and reporting.
  • Strong computer skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Office and Google Workspace.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in relevant fields such as Ethnic Studies, Community Development, or Social Work.
  • Familiarity with San Francisco neighborhoods and community dynamics.
  • Experience in public speaking and community relations.
  • Understanding of housing issues affecting low-income populations.
