Overview:

The mission of the VCU School of Social Work is to cultivate professional social workers as practitioners, scholars, and leaders; to generate research and scholarship that advance knowledge and practice; and to contribute to the local, state, national, international, and professional communities to enhance quality of life. Key Responsibilities

The Family Assessment Program Supervisor will oversee the following regions of Virginia: Piedmont, Western, and parts of Central.

This role entails direct supervision of assigned Family Assessment Specialists who are located throughout the state to complete the family assessment process for resource families, including kinship, foster, and adoptive families.

Responsibilities include:
  • Supervise and act as a backup for a team of Family Assessment Specialists, including:

    • Conducting Family Assessments and addendums,

    • Observing prospective families during pre-service training sessions,

    • Addressing issues or concerns noted during training or raised by trainers or agency personnel,

    • Providing updates to local department staff regarding the status of family assessments,

    • Reviewing and discussing PRIDE Connections/homework with prospective families during visits,

    • Clarifying and responding to inquiries regarding pre-service online clusters,

    • Following up with families about their submission of required documentation (background checks, physicals, references, etc.) to local departments.
  • Coordinate the Family Assessment referral process, which includes:

    • Obtaining and documenting referrals,

    • Assigning referrals to Family Assessment Specialists,

    • Informing local departments of the assigned contractor (Family Assessment Specialist).
  • Prepare and submit comprehensive monthly, quarterly, and weekly reports (format generated by relevant state departments) detailing the activities and progress of assigned Family Assessment Specialists.
  • Review and approve all Family Assessments submitted by assigned Family Assessment Specialists.
  • Conduct monthly conference calls, team meetings, and individual meetings with assigned staff as necessary.
  • Collaborate with Regional Adoption and Family Recruitment Consultants on a monthly basis and as needed.
  • Work in partnership with local departments of social services, state staff, and program managers to ensure consistency, compliance with licensing requirements, and adherence to policies and procedures.
  • Attend meetings across the state as required.
  • This position is a telework role, full-time, 40 hours per week.

    • Frequent travel may be necessary within assigned regions.

    • Evening work may be required for staff supervision and case discussions.

    • Occasional weekend travel/work may be necessary as needed (e.g., in-person supervision, equipment distribution, and/or secondary on a home visit).
  • Additional duties may be assigned based on program needs.
Salary is commensurate with experience.

Qualifications

Preferred Qualifications
  • Master's degree in a human services field such as social work, psychology, or sociology with a minimum of two years' experience in child welfare within a public or private child welfare setting.
  • Experience in completing or supervising individuals who have conducted family assessments.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Requires at least one year of direct supervisory or leadership experience in a public or private child welfare agency.
  • Critical thinking skills, the ability to work independently and collaboratively, multitasking capabilities, and excellent oral and written communication skills are essential.
