**Job Summary**

The Commonwealth of Virginia seeks a highly skilled and experienced professional to serve as the Assistant Superintendent of Student Assessment and Accountability. This key leadership position is responsible for providing strategic direction and oversight to the development and implementation of assessment programs, including local balanced assessment systems and state and federal accountability systems.

**Key Responsibilities**

  • Provide leadership in the development and implementation of assessment programs, including local balanced assessment systems and state and federal accountability systems.
  • Manage and oversee the implementation of large-scale assessment programs, including work with systems used in both online and paper/pencil test delivery modes.
  • Coordinate the efforts of multiple teams to achieve program goals and objectives.
  • Communicate effectively with stakeholders, including educators, contractors, parents, legislators, and the public, regarding complex assessment program and accountability information.
  • Analyze and interpret data to inform program decisions and drive improvement.
  • Develop and manage budgets and resources to support assessment programs.
  • Supervise and mentor staff to ensure effective program implementation and management.

**Requirements**

  • Considerable knowledge of program and contract management, including budget development and management.
  • Extensive experience in managing large-scale assessment programs, including work with systems used in both online and paper/pencil test delivery modes.
  • Proven ability to manage multiple assignments with critical deadlines and coordinate the efforts of others to reach agreed-upon program goals.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively to the educational community, contractors, parents, legislators, and the public regarding highly complex assessment program and accountability information.
  • Demonstrated analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to detail and focus on data.
  • Demonstrated ability to interpret policy and procedures to respond to program inquiries.
  • Considerable experience in managing and monitoring multiple, concurrent tasks effectively.
  • Considerable knowledge and skill using word processing, spreadsheet, and presentation software (e.g., Word, Excel, and PowerPoint).

**Preferred Qualifications**

  • Experience in Web-based test delivery systems and evaluating the functionality of Web-based applications.
  • Experience in large-scale assessment at either the state or local school division level.
  • Supervisory experience.
