Schedule: Per diem 16 hours. Nights, 11:00pm - 7:00am. Every Sunday and Monday.

Under the guidance of the Security Director and other supervisory personnel, the Security Specialist is tasked with ensuring a safe and secure atmosphere for all patients, visitors, and staff at the hospital. This role involves the enforcement of security protocols and the vigilant monitoring of assigned areas to identify and report any safety concerns or irregularities. The incumbent will also provide protective services and respond to incidents to safeguard individuals and property within the hospital premises.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Safeguards individuals and assets through regular patrols, investigations, and monitoring of surveillance systems.
  • Offers assistance and escorts for staff, visitors, and patients upon request.
  • Detains individuals engaging in criminal activities when necessary.
  • Responds to emergencies and various incidents effectively.
  • Utilizes patient restraints when required.
  • Conducts patrols of designated areas, focusing on locations with prior security issues. Identifies unsafe conditions and unsecured areas to mitigate risks of theft, injury, or damage.
  • Maintains confidentiality at all times.
  • Documents and submits reports on daily activities and incidents accurately and promptly.
  • Ensures the safekeeping of valuables and evidence, maintaining proper documentation.
  • May serve as the Security Dispatch Operator as needed.
  • Acts as a first responder to hazardous material incidents.
  • Promotes safety awareness among patients, visitors, and staff.
Working Conditions:
  • Fast-paced and physically demanding environment.
  • Involves walking throughout the hospital and campus in various weather conditions.
  • Requires running short distances in response to urgent calls and security emergencies.
  • Involves standing for extended periods indoors and outdoors.
  • May require lifting, pulling, and pushing when interacting with patients.
  • Potential exposure to situations involving aggressive individuals.

Qualifications:
  • High school diploma required; an Associate's or Bachelor's degree in criminal justice or a related field is preferred. A combination of education and experience will be considered.
  • 1-3 years of experience in police, emergency services, security, or a related field is preferred.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license.
  • Annual criminal background check is mandatory.
  • Physical capability to lift patients (approximately 50 pounds) with assistance, walk rapidly, and endure adverse weather conditions.
  • Must complete and maintain training in De-Escalation, Healthcare Defensive Tactics, Handcuff Tactics, First Aid/CPR/AED, and C-Spine Immobilization.
  • Must obtain HazMat Levels 1, 2 & 3 and IAHSS Basic Officer Certification within one year of employment.
  • Ability to interact effectively with diverse populations and establish trust and respect.
  • Capability to manage and de-escalate stressful situations and high activity levels.
  • Proficient in using access control systems, database software, and communication equipment.
