Job Title: Medical Director

Job Summary:

The Medical Director is a key member of the Preferred Behavioral Health Group (PBHG) Administrative Team, responsible for defining the overall business strategy and direction of the organization. This leadership role requires a strong clinical vision, expertise, and leadership to ensure the delivery of quality healthcare services.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement clinical guidelines and care pathways for the organization.
  • Provide medical leadership and oversight to the prescribing staff and medical staff.
  • Strategize and develop innovative clinical programs to improve patient outcomes.
  • Contribute medical knowledge and expertise on related topics of importance to the community.
  • Plan, organize, and direct medical staff services for the entire organization.
  • Assist the medical staff in formulating standards of care and strategic direction for quality.
  • Facilitate communication between the medical staff and administration to ensure positive medical staff relations.
  • Work to align medical staff goals with those of PBHG and ensure compliance with all quality, legal, and regulatory requirements.
  • Provide medical leadership and clinical oversight for two physicians and seven APNs employed by PBHG.
  • Supervise and train Residents.
  • Develop, implement, and evaluate clinical practice protocols in collaboration with the clinical staff.
  • Collaborate with the Quality & Compliance department to ensure clinical soundness of quality and performance measures.
  • Conduct peer clinical reviews to monitor the appropriateness of medical care, utilization review, assessments, and develop treatment plans.
  • Integrate, monitor, and evaluate quality assurance and utilization review activities to improve quality outcomes.
  • Attend Root Cause Analysis meetings and participate on the Quality Council.
  • Review Administrative Alerts pertaining to medical issues/crises.
  • Complete staff performance evaluations in accordance with PBHG policy and procedure.
  • Participate in the development of clinical information systems and electronic medical records.
  • Oversee clinical staff development and provide education on medication, wellness, and health issues to consumers, providers, family members, and staff.
  • Oversee Prescribing Staff Peer Review to provide ongoing professional practice evaluations.
  • Provide direct services through diagnosing, treating, and coordinating care for consumers with mental, emotional, and behavioral disorders.

Requirements:

  • MD or DO degree from an accredited medical school and dual board certification in adult and child/adolescent psychiatry.
  • Current license to practice medicine in the State of New Jersey and active DEA number.
  • Eight years of practice experience, including a minimum of five years in clinical practice, and previous managerial/supervisory experience.
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) skills a plus.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Possess significant management training, including completion of physician executive leadership coursework.
  • Strong knowledge of current clinical quality, benchmarking, and best practices, and of current developments/issues related to behavioral healthcare settings.
  • Proficient in use of Microsoft Office programs, including Word, Excel, and Outlook, and Internet search tools.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

  • Supervise psychiatric staff, APNs, RNs, and indirectly supervise all clinical staff.
