Position Overview:

The Arizona Department of Transportation (ADOT) is dedicated to the effective management and enhancement of the state's transportation network. The Systems Maintenance Section plays a crucial role in ensuring the functionality and reliability of various traffic management technologies, including traffic signals, ramp meters, Dynamic Message Signs, and more. The Systems Maintenance Manager will oversee a team of approximately 50 full-time employees, guiding them in the maintenance and operation of these critical systems.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and manage staff responsible for the upkeep and operation of traffic management technologies and Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS).
  • Oversee the scheduling and performance monitoring of maintenance activities, ensuring alignment with agency objectives.
  • Provide mentorship and professional development opportunities for team members, fostering a culture of continuous improvement.
  • Manage budget allocations, procurement contracts, and funding line items effectively.
  • Engage with various stakeholders, including local agencies and government officials, to facilitate smooth operations and address inquiries.
  • Attend relevant training and conferences to stay updated on industry standards and practices.

Qualifications:

The ideal candidate will possess:

  • A Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering or a related field.
  • State of Arizona registration as a professional engineer or equivalent experience in traffic signal design, construction, and maintenance.
  • Strong leadership skills with the ability to manage diverse teams and projects.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with a focus on interpersonal relations.
  • Proficiency in budget management and resource allocation.

Work Environment:
