POSITION OVERVIEW

The Phoenix Police Department is dedicated to ensuring the safety and well-being of our community. As part of this mission, we are looking for a skilled and passionate individual to join our team as a Senior Traffic Systems Engineer. This role is essential in enhancing our traffic management capabilities through the application of advanced traffic engineering principles and intelligent transportation systems (ITS).

The selected candidate will work within the Traffic Services Division, focusing on Arterial Systems Management. The Senior Traffic Systems Engineer will utilize their expertise to conduct thorough analyses of traffic data, assess roadway conditions, and develop effective strategies for optimizing traffic signal operations.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Independently analyze and aggregate traffic data to inform signal retiming initiatives.
  • Develop and implement strategies aimed at improving traffic flow and safety on arterial roadways.
  • Create performance measurement tools and standard operating procedures to enhance operational efficiency.
  • Evaluate and manage intelligent transportation systems and emerging technologies.
  • Collaborate with regional agencies and provide engineering support to the Traffic Management Center.
  • Supervise and mentor junior traffic engineering staff, fostering a collaborative work environment.
IDEAL CANDIDATE PROFILE
  • Proficient in data analytics and traffic engineering methodologies.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects effectively.
  • Excellent communication skills, demonstrating professionalism in stakeholder interactions.
  • Familiarity with advanced technologies such as connected vehicle systems and smart detection technologies.

QUALIFICATIONS
  • A minimum of one year of experience in traffic engineering.
