Position Overview:

The Arizona Department of Transportation (ADOT) is dedicated to the effective management and operation of the state's transportation infrastructure. The Systems Maintenance Section plays a critical role in ensuring the functionality and efficiency of various traffic management technologies, including traffic signals, ramp meters, Dynamic Message Signs, and other Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS). The Systems Maintenance Manager will oversee a team of approximately 50 full-time employees, providing leadership and direction in maintaining and optimizing these essential systems.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and manage the maintenance and operational activities of traffic management technologies and ITS deployments.
  • Supervise the maintenance of deck park tunnel operations and stormwater pumping stations.
  • Develop and implement work schedules, monitor team performance, and establish individual performance objectives aligned with the agency's mission.
  • Provide mentorship and coaching to staff, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and accountability.
  • Manage the unit's budget, procurement contracts, and funding allocations effectively.
  • Engage with the public, agency management, and various stakeholders to address inquiries and provide consultation on operational matters.
  • Attend relevant training and conferences to stay updated on industry best practices and technologies.

Qualifications:

Applicants should possess a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering or a related field, along with a professional engineer registration in civil engineering or a closely related discipline. A minimum of 5 to 10 years of experience in the design, construction, maintenance, and operation of traffic signals, lighting, and ITS systems is preferred.
