Summary

In light of the ongoing pandemic and varying state reopening phases, the selected individual’s start date at the official duty station may be postponed until employees are permitted to return to the workplace. The selected candidate may work remotely to the fullest extent possible until state and federal authorities allow regular workplace attendance.

Responsibilities

This role serves as a Staff Support Specialist (MSS-I) within En Route and Oceanic Centers and Terminal facilities. The position entails providing tactical, strategic, and administrative assistance across various program areas, including training, quality control, quality assurance, traffic management, airspace and procedural planning, operational automation, military operations, special and security operations, and safety management systems.

The role necessitates a thorough understanding of the air traffic control sector and familiarity with the integral components of the National Airspace System. Specialists must leverage this knowledge for the analysis, evaluation, and development of innovative methods, studies, approaches, and procedures. The Staff Support Specialist is expected to be well-versed in agency-wide programs, facility objectives, and must communicate effectively, tailoring messages to suit the intended audience. While not mandatory, experience with hardware/software is advantageous. Occasional travel may be required for training or other work-related duties.

  • Individuals commencing government service after November 22, 2021, must be fully COVID vaccinated prior to their start date, except in limited circumstances where the law mandates an exception.

  • Submission of an SF50 is necessary.

Qualifications

Specialized experience is essential. Candidates must fulfill the following criteria:

  1. Must have held an FAA 2152 FV-J/FG-14 or higher regional or headquarters position for a minimum of 1 year (52 weeks);
  2. OR Must have been facility rated or area certified for at least 1 year (52 weeks) at an ATS facility;
  3. OR Must have held a MSS position for at least 1 year (52 weeks) in an ATS facility.

In addition to the qualifications listed above, the chart on MSS positions will be utilized to determine which career level applicants are qualified to apply.

Qualifications must be met by the closing date of this announcement.

Education

Education cannot substitute for experience at the AT-KI level. Ensure your resume contains detailed information to support your qualifications and responses to the job questionnaire.
