The state supported living centers serve people with intellectual and developmental disabilities who are medically fragile or who have behavioral problems. The centers provide campus-based direct services and supports at 13 centers located throughout the state.

This position is available for Morning, Evening and Night shifts.

Key Responsibilities:

Operate the switchboard and connect callers to the appropriate person. Use a band mobile radio. Relay and route written and verbal messages. Monitor alarm systems in order to ensure that secure conditions are maintained. Contact security staff members when necessary, using radio-telephones. Use of personal computers and software applications in a windows environment (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access, Outlook).

Meet and greet visitors and announce when visitors arrive. The Switchboard Operator is capable of handling high volume of calls on a multi-line phone system. The Switchboard Operator answer and place calls fast pace environment and relay important information. Switchboard Operator handles outgoing, interoffice or incoming calls. The external calls placed may be local and/or long distance.

Communicate with facility personnel including Transportation, Security, Maintenance and Campus Administration by band mobile radios. The Switchboard acts as the Command Center for communicating information and relaying emergency information/instructions campus wide. Monitors and responds to signals received from fire annunciator panel. Exhibits a thorough knowledge of facility emergency departmental procedures and is able to form proper interpretation and communicate instructions. Works under moderate supervision with minimal latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment.

Requirements:

Two years' experience in operating a switchboard/receptionist, clerical, or data entry work. Graduation from a standard senior high school or equivalent is generally preferred. Experience and education may be substituted for one another.

Ability to remain calm in a crisis or emergency situation. Ability to work a rotating schedule and the ability to demonstrate flexibility as needed. Ability to handle and safeguard sensitive and confidential information. Ability to work independently and to exercise judgment in making administrative and technical decisions. Ability to use a band mobile radio. Ability to develop/implement administrative procedures and to evaluate their effectiveness; and to interpret complex rules, regulations, policies and procedures. Ability to understand and follow verbal and written instructions. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with supervisor and coworkers.

The salary offered will follow HHS starting salary guidelines which are typically made at or near the minimum of the salary range. Applicants must pass a fingerprint criminal background check, pre-employment drug screen, and registry checks including the Client Abuse/Neglect Reporting System (CANRS), Nurse Aide, Medication Aide and Employee Misconduct and HHS OIG List of Excluded Individuals/Entities. Males between the ages of 18 - 25 must be registered with the Selective Service.

All State Supported Living Center employees are subject to Random drug testing.

Flexibility in work hours may be required for this position. The position may be required to work overtime and/or extended hours. Must be willing to work weekends and holidays.
