Position Overview

This role is part of the Global Technology Infrastructure & Operations team (GTIO), dedicated to delivering modern and relevant technology solutions that enhance McDonald's operations. We provide top-tier foundational technology products and services, including Global Networking, Cloud, End User Computing, and IT Service Management, aiming to create an engaging and straightforward experience for our clients.

The Systems Infrastructure Specialist II (Restaurant Systems Management, RSM, Platform) is a key member of the Restaurant Infrastructure & Operations Platform team within GTIO. Reporting to the Senior Technical Product Manager (RSM), this position focuses on engineering and development, integrating with various Restaurant and Enterprise systems, and establishing development patterns and directions. The RSM platform encompasses tools, processes, and services related to restaurant device configuration, management, compliance, software installation, and security updates.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design, implement, test, deploy, and maintain innovative software solutions to enhance platform service performance, reliability, cost-effectiveness, and security.
  • Execute the short-term strategy for the Restaurant Systems Management team.
  • Play a crucial role in the engineering and development of product features from inception to completion.
  • Create solutions for predictive analysis on distributed systems, utilizing innovative technologies at significant scale and speed.
  • Assess RSM architecture and configurations against established baselines; analyze performance to identify and develop improvement opportunities.
  • Enhance team performance by mentoring junior technical team members.
  • Contribute to a prioritized engineering and development roadmap aligned with overall platform strategy and internal stakeholders.
  • Guide platform architecture and critical decision-making processes.
  • Provide input into global restaurant standards to ensure consistency.
  • Collaborate with internal leaders, segment and market teams, and the Restaurant Compute and Hardware Solutions team on their strategies and plans for individual solutions.
  • Break down complex problems into clear solutions, consistently applying strong, data-driven business and technical judgment.
  • Identify core challenges or opportunities within business processes, understanding root causes and impacts for projects and other teams.
  • Proactively identify gaps and opportunities within or between supported systems and processes.
  • Invest time in coaching team members to enhance their skills and close capability gaps.
Qualifications

Basic Qualifications:

  • Solid knowledge and experience with Microsoft SCCM (System Center Configuration Manager), Intune, Ansible, Jamf, or similar Systems Management technologies.
  • Demonstrated experience with Infrastructure as Code implementations (Terraform, Chef, Puppet, AWS Cloud Formation).
  • Familiarity with monitoring tools such as Microsoft System Center Operations Manager, NewRelic, or SolarWinds.
  • Experience with dashboards and reporting.
  • Proficient in software development and deployment at scale.
  • Experience with automated OS deployments.
  • Knowledge of scripting languages, including PowerShell and Bash.
  • Experience with Python, .NET, and C#.
  • Familiarity with MDM solutions.
  • Understanding of DevOps in large-scale distributed environments.
  • Knowledge of server (Microsoft Windows, Linux), client (Microsoft Windows, Linux), and Android/Apple systems.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of device configuration, software installation, and security patching.
  • Adept at utilizing data to proactively identify and resolve complex issues affecting the restaurant infrastructure platform.
  • Ability to think strategically and connect architectural decisions to business needs.
  • Deep understanding of cloud solutions across major cloud service providers (AWS, GCP, Azure).
  • Experience with cloud concepts, including Serverless Architecture, Container Architecture, Storage, and Identity and Access Management.
  • Experience with IT Infrastructure/Platform and Cloud development, including:
    • Server, Edge, IoT Compute
    • Virtualization, Containerization
    • Container Management Systems
    • Event and Messaging Systems
    • Observability Systems (Performance, Telemetry)
    • High Availability Platform Designs
    • Cloud, Hybrid, Hyperconvergence Environments
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing high-quality work.
  • Passion for emerging technology and its real-world applications.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, capable of presenting ideas clearly to senior stakeholders.
  • Understanding of customer-centricity in product development.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with Infrastructure as Code, Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS), and Platform as a Service (PaaS).
  • Experience with on-premise, Edge, and Cloud platform design patterns and vendor capabilities; experience deploying Edge or Cloud tools and technologies.
  • Ability to effectively influence and collaborate across product and platform teams within a global engineering organization.
  • Proven ability to manage and navigate to drive results within a globally distributed organization.
  • Experience in building and managing infrastructure platforms that address global complexities, meet security standards, and accommodate regional differences.

Experience:

  • 2+ years of professional software development experience (non-internship).
  • 1+ years of experience in contributing to the architecture, engineering, and design of new and existing systems.
  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or a related field, or equivalent experience.
  • Programming experience with modern languages such as C#, C++, and PowerShell, including object-oriented design.
  • Proven leadership abilities in an engineering environment, driving operational excellence and best practices.
  • Experience in optimization mathematics, including linear programming and nonlinear optimization.
  • Ability to articulate technical challenges and solutions effectively.
  • Adept at handling ambiguous or undefined problems and thinking abstractly.
  • Solid understanding of Computer Science fundamentals (object-oriented design, data structures, and algorithms).
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, self-driven, and capable of delivering high-quality results in a fast-paced environment.
  • Highly quantitative with excellent judgment and a passion for creating exceptional customer experiences.

Salary range for this role is $96,230 - $122,690 per year.
