Position Overview

The Princeton University Art Museum is in search of a Store Marketing Assistant to assist the Manager of Wholesale and Retail Operations in the effective creation and management of products that resonate with the museum's collections, exhibitions, and educational initiatives.

Role Responsibilities

The Store Marketing Assistant will be instrumental in curating a distinctive and varied array of products that reflect the museum's mission and enhance the merchandise planning for the Museum Stores. Key responsibilities include:
  1. Conducting thorough research across various curatorial domains to pinpoint unique and underrepresented pieces suitable for product development.
  2. Collaborating with the museum's curatorial team to align product lines with exhibition schedules and themes.
  3. Engaging with external vendors, artists, and designers to source or create exclusive merchandise that embodies the museum's brand and values.
  4. Expanding potential artist/vendor sources by focusing on regional and diverse vendors committed to excellence in design and production.
  5. Managing licensing and copyright matters related to proposed merchandise, ensuring compliance with legal standards and alignment with the institution's broader narrative.
  6. Working alongside the Editorial Department for the development of product descriptions, captions, and layout of text.

Qualifications

Essential Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in Marketing, Business, Retail Management, or a related field.
  • Prior experience in retail or product development, preferably within a museum or cultural institution.
  • Familiarity with inventory management and merchandising practices.
  • Ability to analyze market trends, consumer preferences, and identify new product opportunities.
  • Experience in developing and managing unique product lines, particularly those related to museum merchandise.
  • Strong creativity and innovation skills to craft appealing product offerings.
  • Proficiency in graphic design software is advantageous.

  • Understanding of marketing principles tailored to retail environments.
  • Knowledge of digital marketing strategies, including social media and e-commerce.
  • Strong project management skills with the ability to juggle multiple projects effectively.
  • Analytical skills to evaluate product performance and customer feedback.
  • A passion for art, culture, and museum work.
  • Excellent communication skills for effective collaboration with internal teams and external partners.
