Overview:

The Retail Operations Supervisor is tasked with leading the daily functions of all food and beverage services across various retail locations. This role is essential in ensuring adequate staffing, prioritizing service excellence, and maintaining guest satisfaction in alignment with institutional standards to provide top-tier service to the entire university community.

Key Responsibilities:

Operational Management:
Engage in the procurement, receiving, and distribution of food and non-food items for retail outlets.

Ensure accurate inventory management, billing, payroll, cash handling, and adherence to business office protocols in line with university regulations.

Uphold service standards and hospitality at all times, focusing on effective signage, digital displays, and operational readiness during opening and closing hours. Deliver a consistently high-quality service experience.

Assess customer satisfaction through direct engagement, presence during events, focus groups, and addressing customer feedback. Cultivate and maintain client relationships.

Foster innovation in retail operations by researching global food trends, retail dynamics, and conscious eating practices to enhance a diverse retail experience that caters to the community.

Provide support to all Retail Operations and related services as necessary.

Team Leadership & Development:
Offer guidance and constructive feedback to team members. Supervise union staff to ensure compliance with collective agreements and university policies.

Conduct performance evaluations; provide counseling and disciplinary actions as needed.

Inspire and motivate the team through positive leadership. Ensure team members' ideas are acknowledged and solutions are implemented.

Oversee the recruitment process for operational staff, ensuring effective onboarding and training.

Maintain optimal staffing levels and establish clear expectations for team members while providing ongoing support and feedback.

Assist in planning, organizing, directing, coordinating, scheduling, and delegating responsibilities to ensure daily operational goals are met.

Demonstrate effective listening skills to understand and address concerns raised by team members and guests.

Participate in and help coordinate necessary meetings and training sessions.

Food Safety & Compliance:
Uphold rigorous food safety and sanitation standards. Provide training and supervision to all staff regarding these standards.

Conduct regular inspections of dining facilities to ensure quality standards are met.

Ensure adherence to all local, state, and university food safety regulations, workplace safety protocols, and HACCP guidelines. Promote a safe working environment by addressing safety concerns, investigating incidents, enforcing safety protocols, and collaborating with safety committees.

Assist guests with food allergies and special dietary needs.

Additional Responsibilities:
Monitor cost control systems.

Take an active role in departmental sustainability and wellness initiatives.

Support university dining events as required.

Collaborate with colleagues in venue services for daily operations and large-scale events.

Qualifications:

Essential Qualifications:
Associate's Degree or equivalent experience, preferably in Hospitality.

A minimum of 4-6 years of progressive experience in managing a team within the hospitality sector.

Familiarity with health department regulations, including HACCP and ServSafe.

Knowledge of culinary techniques, including various cooking methods and presentation styles.

Ability to work independently with precision, manage multiple tasks, and delegate effectively.

Strong interpersonal and communication skills, capable of engaging with a diverse population.

Excellent organizational and problem-solving abilities, with a keen attention to detail and the capacity to meet strict deadlines.

Basic understanding of computerized food production systems.

Knowledge and experience in the maintenance of kitchen equipment.

Ability to create and implement training programs to enhance service quality.

Clearly communicate the department's vision and track progress.

Understanding of budgeting and financial statements to manage operations responsibly.

Flexibility to work varied hours, including evenings and weekends.

Proficiency in Word, Excel, Outlook, and food ordering systems.

Must be capable of fulfilling essential personnel duties, which may require an extended presence on campus during emergencies.

Valid Driver's License required.

Physical Requirements:
Ability to stand or walk for extended periods; lift and carry weights up to 50 pounds; perform various physical tasks including bending, squatting, and reaching.

Preferred Qualifications:
Experience with FoodPro software.

Knowledge of local, state, and federal nutritional guidelines.

Experience managing in a unionized environment.
