Position Overview:

The West Power Commercial Operations Desk is seeking a driven individual to contribute to commercial operations across the CAISO, the western United States, and Canada. The ideal candidate will engage in a variety of tasks, including wholesale pricing, customer reporting, scheduling, market analysis, modeling, and research. This role is designed to lay the groundwork for high achievers to progress into a power trading career.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversee pre-scheduling, tie-outs, and NERC e-tagging for WECC physical power transactions.
  • Assist with the allocation and auction processes for CAISO Congestion Revenue Rights (CRR).
  • Create detailed models to evaluate commodity markets, assess new business opportunities, and provide guidance to clients.
  • Identify potential new business opportunities with wholesale counterparties, including Community Choice Aggregations (CCAs), utilities, and other wholesale energy firms.
  • Manage and verify short-term CCA forecasts and position reports.
  • Support Regulatory and Compliance Teams to ensure timely and thorough responses to regulatory changes and adherence to existing regulations.
  • Conduct research to uncover potential strategic business opportunities.

Work Environment:

  • Collaborative open office setting.
  • Evening and weekend work may be necessary based on business requirements.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Mathematics, Engineering, or related fields from an accredited institution, along with 3+ years of military experience.
  • Understanding of physical and financial power markets.
  • Strong verbal and written communication abilities.
  • Capability to manage multiple tasks, prioritize effectively, and meet deadlines while maintaining attention to detail.
  • Proficient in spreadsheet, programming, and presentation skills.
  • Creative thinker with strong analytical and investigative skills.
  • Statistical proficiency.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Proficiency in SQL and an object-oriented programming language (e.g., Ruby, Python, VBA).

Advanced quantitative degree in Mathematics, Engineering, or related fields from an accredited institution is preferred.
